To all the naysayers---How is this NOT a horror?? SPOILERS!!!
First,
let's look at the definition of horror...
this is from the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
(noun)painful and intense fear, dread, or dismay
(adj) calculated to inspire feelings of dread or horror
this is from the Oxford Dictionary:
(noun)an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust
a literary or film genre concerned with arousing feelings of horror
Now,
I am not a mother (I plan to be someday soon), but I can only imagine that realizing I inadvertently locked my son in a basement which resulted in his falling to his death would be one of the WORST horrors I could ever experience.
When it was revealed to the audience just what exactly had happened to Simon, and as I sat watching the mother as she slowly realized what she had done, I have to admit that feelings of horror were definitely aroused!! There certainly was painful and intense fear, dread, or dismay in my house while viewing.
This is scarier to me than any poltergeist could ever be!!!
