Unrealistic Driving Habit

The vehicle hitting Benigna at full speed. Are we done with this element yet? It's happened so many times in movies it's more irritating than shocking and the setup is always the same: camera lingers on someone stationary (normally in a road, traffic completely backed up) and here comes a runaway bus or truck out of nowhere, often going the wrong way through a lane that magically opened up.

It's bad enough to have seen it done in spoof movies, replayed multiple times in Nick Cage's Wicker Man, some of the Final Destinations. Please let this trope die, as it's neither shocking or funny as it doesn't make sense. What, did the driver fall asleep at the wheel half-mile up the road? Only thing impressive about it is that collision didn't turn the old lady into pulp.

So, really, after this movie's release, has this sort of violence disappeared from Hollywood? I'd hate to watch another good movie only to have it ruined by something I'd expect to be in a poorly received comedy sketch.

You mean another good movie like the Wicker Man remake or the Final Destination movies? 
