Upon rewatch

It's actually not that bad, I thought it was pretty good. Better than I remember. I used to not like it. Of course, it still has it's problems. Dumb dialogue like "winner gets me." Yeah, sure. (Eyeroll.) The lead actor is handsome to look at, so that's a plus for me. I heard he's a self trained actor. He's okay for teaching himself, just think he would've been better if he had lessons. He's way too old to be playing a high schooler, it would've been better if they had aged him up. I know lots of older people who play high school boys, but he actually looks his age. He doesn't look like a teenage boy at all, he looks like a grown man in his early/mid 20s (because he is.) He aged really well after seeing him in the newer Fast movies, he must be one of those guys that always looks the same. We also all know people probably would've liked this better had it not been associated with the franchise. Just give it a different title and it's a pretty different story.

The Tall goofy gangly white american pretty boy always reminds me of lead man John Stockwell in "My Science Project" (1985) ,

who is also a street racer

reply

"Tall goofy gangly white american pretty boy."

That was so long but I love it.

"winner gets me" - while I agree that is stupid, it is kind of a real thing out there. I knew girls like that.

here's a similar lyric line from a Foreigner song "Rev on the redline", maybe based on writer's experience:

"And make no mistake
There's women who just wait
For the man and machine with the best time"

groupies for rock stars, sports heros, astronauts... it's a confidence power winning attraction sexual thing

more about that song:

Louis Grammatico is firmly in touch with the terms. His late-'60s-early-'70s street racing days taught him a thing or two, such as: winning the race wins the girl. And so he set out to win the girls. Which he did - but it was only later, as rock star Lou Gramm in the band Foreigner, when girls really began to hurl themselves in his direction. By the time this particular song came out in 1979, they were hurling themselves in even larger numbers, because as everybody knows, girls love a rock star, paired with rock stars who are also street racers, equals rock stars whose craniums are loaded with street racing terms. Ergo, rock stars are not sissies. Or something like that.

reply

Hm. Okay. As a girl myself I know most girls don't go around saying that, but some of them yes. So I believe you. I don't even think it was degrading or anything, just stupid.

reply

oh I agree! :)

reply

reply

I fell asleep like the first ten minutes

reply

I watched it again today with my brother

To me this movie still feels fresh. It has that re-watchability factor.

reply

This is surprisingly very rewatchable, I haven't rewatched a movie this much in a long time and still enjoy it every time
