Should I watch this before or after 4, 5, and 6?

I've never seen any of the Fast & Furious movies, so am having myself an F&F marathon before going to see 6 this weekend. I've already seen the first two and I understand that this one takes place chronologically after 6. So, should I watch this one before 4, 5, and 6, or after?

I'm sure this question has been raised already here, but I haven't looked at all of the previous posts, because I'm trying to avoid any more spoilers in post titles. Also, I dunno if it's relevant, but I actually liked 2 more than 1.

I think you can do either or, but I'd recommend watching Tokyo drift before. It'll make the other 4, 5 and 6 better because of character development. And it allows you to realize things in piecing the puzzle together.

It doesn't matter when you watch it. Hans fate was retconned. The film stands practically on its own.

His fate was not retconned. He died in the exact same manner in the same location in both Tokyo Drift and Furious 6. Furious 6 just shows that there was a bit more to it than initially shown in Tokyo Drift.

I'll say just watch it in order 1 through 6.

It's really up to you, but if you want to have yourself a little marathon of the chonological order of events, I would do 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6, and then Tokyo Drift. Or I can just watch it separately and not really think about anything that has to do with what goes on in that movie.

I recently watched a six-movie marathon of the Fast movies in chronological order - meaning I watched Tokyo Drift last.

I have to say, I enjoyed Tokyo Drift even more that way. Without giving spoilers, there's an extra layer of depth when watching Tokyo Drift after 6.

reply

True, there's more depth to Han in Tokyo Drift after having watched 6.

But if you don't see Tokyo Drift, you'll be left wondering who that asian guy is. in 5 and 6.

I say watch 123456 and then watch Tokyo Drift again. That way you get the best of both worlds.

And chronologically Tokyo Drift is actually after 7 not right after 6. At the end of Tokyo Drift we see a relaxed Torretto racing, meaning the ending of Tokyo Drift happened a few months if not a year after the events of 7.

Number 1, 4 and 5 in that order. Number 2 and 3 are standalone movies.

Han has a major role in Tokyo Drift, but it doesn't matter if you see it before number 4 because of his very minor role in that. To be honest his involvement in number 4 felt like it was just to make it clear where we were in the timeline, it was that short.

I wouldn't call 2 Fast 2 Furious a standalone movie because it has to do with Brian and he is one of the main characters of the franchise. Plus, it introduced us to Roman and Tej.

What I meant is that you can watch the 1, 4, 5 and 6 in that order without watching the others and still not have any problems following the story line.

Try watching number 4 without having watched number 1.

reply

it's best to just watch em all from start to finish.

just watch them in the order they are released and you will get the most out of it all that way.

just watch them 1-6. a few years ago you could probably skip tokyo drift, but the series is finally tying that movie together with the rest of the movies. It's a cool narrative to watch now.
