What was the point of the Sean character?

Its like they just needed another WHITE guy to replace Paul Walker. But why is he even necessary? Why not just do it with Han and Bow-bow? Why do we need Sean?

unfortunately most Americans don't enjoy a main non-white character, unless is someone like Will Smith or Jackie Chan lol

They needed a white character and a new guy to be a stranger in a strange land. It was easier for the audience to relate to.

What does the race of the character have to do with it? Just because the main character is white, why does your mind immediately think they just got a white guy because they HAD to?
