Tokyo Drift is probably the only sequel that catches the spirit of the original. First of all it's all races and girls and features an exotic location. But it's also a humble and genuine entertaining installment. No big plots like in a James Bond adventure, but a light and solid story with convincing characters. I rate it ***/*****
You know what, that is quite true. TD may not be anywhere near as memorable and solid as the original, but it is a very grounded (for what it is) and straightforward movie compared to everything that followed. And while it might’ve felt like a completely different movie to some, looking back this third movie unarguably has so much in common with the movie that started it all — moreso than any other sequel. I’ve always liked it.
