How did that kid even know they were in there?

We see the crowd quietly eating in their darkened house.

Nobody could possibly have known that ANYONE was even inside, but that young kid - who was apparently being CHASED- keeps battering on the door relentlessly, instead of running?

Surely he'd have been better off either-

i) trying to break in to this ''empty house''?
ii) Pissing off quickly?

I wondered that as well. It was bright sunlight. Was there a chimney with smoke? I didn't see anything that lead me to believe he would know it was populated as he ran up to it.

Yeah, then Don actually opens the door fully to admit him- without checking if he's infected (eyes even unadjusted to light?)
