I liked it, but I didn't like it.
I'm only making this post cause for some reason, this movie keeps popping up in the trending section. This was a solidly okay movie. It had really cheesy dialog. I don't feel like this movie made any sense spiritually for Rambo carrying on from Rambo III, after all the peace found and then being dragged back to war but for the RIGHT REASONS for once. Them pesky Taliban lmao. (Research CIA ops and have your mind blown to pieces.) I don't feel like others do that this movie made any sense ignoring the sequels. It's just.... kind of there, like a hang nail. But okay. Rambo could totally be an unwanted hangnail, a contusion. The spin this time of him leading a team finally, and getting a taste of what Rambo of old in the Nam war was EPIC, and a huge part of what served to make this film a good send off for the character. You get the sense that Rambo never got to play that role in Nam, but now he finally is, and things are gonna go f'n right for once, and they do. This is Rambo redeeming himself, with team leading, not all the killing. We brushed on this in Rambo III, but here we truly hammer down. Rambo leads the team. All the bad guys are dead. All the good guys are saved. And Rambo goes home. This was Rambo's demon. Played out in a familiar setting; the jungle. This was Rambo's dream. To do it right and to go home. It wasn't perfect but we're so lucky to have it this good. The whole is greater than the faults. This is a great damn send off for Rambo.
