are there places where this actually happens?
Are there places where this type of genocide actually happens? If so, where? Is this supposed to be Darfur?

shareYes, a lot of this is based on what happens in Burma, where the movie takes place. Sly and his crew actually narrowly avoided getting shot lots of time.
I an't afraid of no ghosts!

Sly and crew did not narrowly miss getting shot at all, as they didn't film in Burma.
But yes, what is depiced in this film does happen...only much worse.
They could not show most of what they wanted to otherwise the film would never had been released.
And the footage at the start were real images from Burma supplied by the BBC news.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he is God.

I didn't say they filmed in Burma, but Sly did say that REAL bullets would shoot across the set every once in awhile, so they did narrowly avoided getting shot at times.

Fix your tag. The actual quote is: "The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist."

shareYou fool.
The poster is very correct as he knows full well the quote you are using.
He may well be on the non believer spectrum and taking the proverbial out of the believers.
Im pretty sure hes taking the piss.
shareYeah. In Burma.
Everything I ever needed to know, I learned from killing smart people and eating their brains.

Yeah, because apparently Republicans are really in touch with the suffering of others all over the world, which nicely explains why they start a lot of these wars in the first place. If you like Rambo and you're a Republican, you know what that tells me? It tells me that you're even more blind to human suffering and more cozy than our liberal friend (who granted is probably 12). Because if the is one thing that Republicans are all about, it's dealing with "thugs, genocide, wars, oppression and starvation around the world." God *beep* bless America.
shareYeah right on! Cause liberals are all about helping suffering people. Just like when the forced the U.S. to leave Vietnam and then helped all those Vietnamese people escape the Vietcong. Or when they helped the people of Darfur. What do you mean those never happened? Ok, how bout when they helped the people in the Middle East by getting rid of the oppressive governments and then helped the oh so very peaceful Muslim Brotherhood into power. What's that about out of the frying pan and into the fire? Didn't Jimmy Carter do something very similar when he was Prez? It turned out so wonderfully for the whole world when he got rid of the thugs and helped the totally altruistic Khomeini into power. And liberal heroes like Stalin, Mao Zedong, Chavez, Castro, Che, Kim Jong-il, their successors, and so on never ever oppressed, starved, or killed anyone. You know what though, it's all Bush's fault.

Kind of a mute point when he was followed by a president who took no more of a hard line policy against Iran. Of course Reagan said he "had no idea" about the Iran-Contra dealings. Whether Reagan knew about it or not, his *conservative* administration went over congress's heads to sell weapons to Iran and use the money to fund a group in Nicaragua that was guilty of much of the same atrocities you see depicted in this film. Hell, they were supported by a dictatorship in Argentina at the time. And while we're on the topic of Iran, the Reagan administration also sold weapons technology to Saddam in Iraq (an ally at the time) because they were fighting a war against who? Iran!!!
And while we're on the topic of central American conflict, do some research on the School of the Americas in Georgia. It's an institute where Latin Americans were trained in military tactics and then returned home to Honduras, Nicaragua, etc. to commit attrocities against their own people. Whether you have liberals or conservatives to thank for that, I admittedly don't know.
"And liberal heroes like Stalin, Mao Zedong, Chavez, Castro, Che, Kim Jong-il, their successors, and so on never ever oppressed, starved, or killed anyone."
Wait... what??? Stalin and Kim Jong-il are liberal heroes? I mean, okay, there are shirts with Che Guevara's face on them, but Stalin???
Mao Zedong!?! Ahh yes, because liberals have a resounding affection for communist China! When thousands of students were arrested, beaten or killed at Tianamen Square for proposing democracy, do you think liberals were going, "Damn right! Down with freedom of speech!" ?
I may never understand the desire of conservatives to lump oppressive communist regimes who crush dissidence with liberals who are historically, the most outspoken and mobile when it comes to being dissident.
If you're going to assert that all liberals are in favor of communism, than is it okay for me to assert that all conservatives are in favor of Nazism?

nothing is over! nothing! you just don't turn it off! it wasn't my war!
His name...was Julio Iglesias!
Since the Nazis were Socialists I’d believe that puts them in the leftist camp.
shareWho got America into WWI?
Who got America into WWII?
Who used a nuclear weapon on civilian cities?
Who escalated Vietnam into an actual war?
You are a stupid idiot.
Re: are there places where this actually happens?
No, the heroes never come.
One of the best scenes is when the bible-thumper gets closer to God by bashing a soldier's brains in with a rock.
I'm sorry that the Coen brothers don't direct the porn that I watch. They're hard to get ahold of, okay?

You have to be an american in order to ask that question.
shareTry the concentration camps in North Korea. Nazi-style concentration camps from 1945 in 2012. Entire families disappear into those gulags and are never heard from again.
