Curious how it didn't win any big cinematograpy awards?

In my opinion it's one of the most beautiful movies ever shot. I loved the cinematography, the costumes, the locations; they were all top notch. So how come it didn't get nominated for any Oscars or other big awards in those categories?

Cinematography yes maybe
But the screenplay was dull
And the costumes were typical and "look at me"

You think the screenplay was dull? It was anything but, unless your tastes are geared to action movies, or you don't have the patience to notice the many subtleties of it.

First of all the film was a flop which makes it difficult to get recognized. Plus, the cinematography wasnt that special, the beauty of the images derived from the magnificent sets and costumes...

Lol, the cinematography was mediocre at best and the costumes were laughably bad. I mean, maybe you like circus, but cmon.

The costumes were meant to look ridiculous because it was a child's imagination.
