Budget?

Does anyone have an idea what the budget for this film was? For almost 30 filming locations around the world, this could not have been a cheap film to make... And $3 million box office does not seem it would even cover a fraction of that cost.

I don't know if a figure has ever been released, but Tarsem largely financed the film with his own funds. Also the cast and crew were paid on an equal basis as opposed to what you get with your more standard Hollywood fare. Filming also wasn't done in normal fashion either - it took place over 4 years.

Given that this seemed very much like a project of passion for him (one of the reasons he largely financed it himself was because he was determined to make the film and the story how he wanted it told - he didn't want a studio telling him what he could and couldn't put in), I'm not sure he minded it only doing $3 million.

Agent Hill: ...Then aliens invaded New York and were beaten back, by among others, a giant green monster, a costumed hero from the 40's.... and a god.

Agent Ward: I don't think Thor is technically a god.

Hill: Well...you haven't been near his arms.

Not the lowest of the low for sure but I would imagine not as much as it would appear. I'm guessing but it would appear that a lot of the foreign location shoots utilised small crews with only a handful of people travelling. They would have picked up local crew where needed. Tarsem is from India and quite a chunk of the film was shot there. The Hospital scenes were probably shot fairly efficiently too.
