I doubt these figures would have covered the fee for any of the main cast!
looks like they took the unrated black mark rather then the nc-17 either way it was not going to make it into many theaters with that stigma.
shareI suspect this film flopped at the box office due to poor marketing. I don't think it's exactly easy to market a romantic art house film for men combining nudity and a fairly intellectual perspective on life.
Having said that, it still surprises me this film hasn't gained more popularity during the years that followed its release. It's such a great film you'd expect more people would have picked it up due to mouth-to-mouth advertising.
