Here's why Supernatural is really ending after season 15

https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a28843570/supernatural-season-15-ending-why/

"If it gets to the point where the network says they need at least 15 [episodes], or 18, or we can't do less than 20, then that's a question we'll figure out at the end of this year."

But clearly that wasn't something The CW wanted, settling on 20 episodes for the final season.

Had there been plans to shorten their length, however, Padalecki would have been on board.
"That'd be just like heaven," he continued. "We'd go for 30 more seasons if we did that.
"We did talk about it. That was a big discussion with the network and the studio...but mainly the network, because they're the ones who need the content, in order to sell it."
Alas, what could have been.

What I don't get is, how things have changed from what was originally said? Mark P said that as long as the boys wanted to do it, they (the network) would make that happen. So could the show have continued with just 15/18 episodes, would us fans have been happy with this, and with the content, and quality of the writing? Sounds like in some ways the boys wanted to carry on if their deal was shorter episodes so they could spend more time with families.

I was ready to blame Jensen for going to see Bob Singer about hanging up the SPN hat, but this doesn't appear to be the case. ( I was wrong) They had always both talked about how to end it when that time came. I love these boys in how they tirelessly battle for perfection, and want the show they help created keep and remain strong until the bitter end. I hope the end is perfection!

Thoughts please .......

I only glimpsed at this, but I feel like Networks these days wants to let go of "older" shows and bring in newer shows. Supernatural has a huge fan base of all ages, but to be honest I didn't hear much about the show since it was on the for 8 seasons. The CW imo is a odd Network and handles ratings differently.

I know 15 to 18 episodes is less than 20...but it's not a even a half season or anything. There is/was the option of shopping for another Network for Supernatural, but they probably didnt want to move/leave the cw. Or it's another "reason/excuse" for ending the show.

I think it may end with them dying and possibly Cas making a sacrifice from panels and interviews. However, they could be misleading us, but I dont want a happy shine ending with them married with kids or anything. I just hope it's good and not a final nail in coffin.

Sad and I will miss it but I think they both knew it was time. Their lives and interests are pulling them in so many different directions, something had to give. Jensen especially seems to have many irons in different fires. The Brewery, the music collaboration with Steve (whatever that is), future acting gigs, the possible publishing? business... wasn’t there talk of turning the home on the FBBC into a restaurant? And who knows what other investments. With Jared it’s mostly talk of being with family. Let’s face it, how could you ever really be ready for something as special and life altering to end. It’s nice that they get to decide rather than have it canceled out from under them. To go out on that high note Jensen talks about.

I know AC its lovely to have them go out on their own terms. Its credit to them knowing when they think its right to hang up their boots. I think it is time, even though I don't feel its 100~% ready for me. I still think it had another couple of years to run. Particularly with God as the big bad, it will be interesting to see how it wraps up. I never realised Jensen had so many projects on the go. I didn't know about the publishing business, maybe he could publish my book ha! Don't know what the FBBC is? or the restaurant idea. I also know that he and Danneel still renovate houses and sell them on for a profit, those houses are huge. I also did hear he has shares in his local Golf course, can't remember where I read this? I did also hear that he is hardly at the brewery and Danneel seems to be helping more there than he is. But then maybe next year that might be different? He's one busy boy. Neither of them are afraid of hard-work.

reply

Nothing definite on the possible publishing front. Danneels been teasing somethings in the works. Whether it’s just something she’s involved in or both, who knows. She did that jewelry line for charity so maybe she’s expanding into her own line of clothing/accessories/jewelry? Who knows. They certainly don’t let grass grow under their feet. FBBC. Family Business Beer Company. Their brewery. There’s a home on the property I read somewhere they were thinking of making a restaurant or something. I’m not sure they intended to renovate and flip their last home. It seemed like they put soooo much of themselves into it. You’ve seen the video that Architectural Digest did on their place, right? Again, who knows. I doubt that anyone really knows how much time Danneel or Jensen actually spend at the brewery unless someone who works there confirmed it. I never knew or heard anything regarding Jensen owning shares in the local golf course. It wouldn’t surprise me. It appears as if both Jared and Jensen are well diversified. Jensen recently purchased that Bed and Breakfast. Rental property (both J’s). Plus it seems as if the Ackles have moved out of the Austin lake house to a new location. No definitive info on that yet.

So does he not live on the same street as Jared any longer? I can't keep up with this lot.

reply

If he moved as it seems to appear he has, then no, he doesn’t. Saw a poster on a website who claimed they had sussed out the location of the new digs but wouldn’t reveal basically saying that others could figure it out on their own. And yes, it’s still in Austin.

There was some info regarding taxes being assessed in the lake area where he lived. Seems the homeowners who lived there for whatever reason all this time did not have to pay. I’m not sure what kind of tax it involved but with the new enactment it apparently meant quite a lot of money for all the property owners involved. Substantial money. And as you know, taxes seldom decrease. I don’t know if that may have partially influenced the sale or not. Then there was another site which showed that the property sold at a substantial loss. A lot of speculation. Who knows what’s real. I have a hard time believing that that home with all the upgrades in such a desirable area would sell for less. Jensen lives an interesting life, that’s for sure.

I had a chat with my dad and he seems to think its to do with Land tax, which is very pricey. Also water rates would be very high there. I'd love to know where you get you gossip from AC. As you seem to be on the ball and know stuff that some of us don't!?!

That is what has always impressed me about Jensen that he knows how to make money and lots of it. He is very money oriented, focused and driven. I remember years ago when he wanted to go into acting that his father had strong words with him that if you are really serious about this, I will give you six months to prove to me its what you want to do with the rest of his life. Alan Ackles was proved wrong as we know Jensen has gone on leaps and bounds, and didn't need to go back home and have that second income of a proper job to fall back on. Alan Ackles knew what the business was like, and guess he didn't want his son falling into the same loop hole. But, we all know how hard these guys work, the hours and hours they work, sometimes under horrible weather situations and they still plod on, because the work needs to be done. You would think after 12-18 hour days they wouldn't have any spare time to build up their little empires and have fingers in a number of pies! But they clearly do. So proud of him for not giving up and going back home, he clearly didn't want to fail. I guess this is partly what drives him, to prove his dad wrong that he could make it, and he made it! As you said, he sure leads an interesting life, that we know of. We might have just only touched the surface of what really does go on?

It had something to do with the homeowners in that lake area not having to pay taxes which has been longstanding for many years. It’s nothing against those homeowners, they weren’t doing anything wrong. You know government - there was money to be had and so they adjusted accordingly. The other thing about taxes is they seldom decrease, so big hit now, and a likely even bigger hit in future.

From what I’ve read and the bits that Jensen has spilled over the years - he’s always indicated that his dad fully supported him and I believe financed the apartment? for the initial time period. It was Jensen who put up the time frame. He figured he’d give it his shot and if nothing came of it within 6 months(?) he would return home. I think his best friend followed him out there shortly thereafter. Senior Ackles knows the score, he has been involved the the business long enough. He was the one who told Jensen not to hang on waiting for call backs after auditions. Just go in, do your best and walk. Jensen said there was one time where he did not heed his dads advice after auditioning for a part he wanted badly. He hung by the phone, worried and let it get to him. He didn’t get the part. So it was all that worry for nothing. So he learned to do as his dad suggested. Jensen said his dad also gave him his guitar. So yeah. Supportive all the way. There was no having to prove that his father was wrong.

I know the guys work hard and are dedicated and love the show and their fans but let’s face it, they get paid well for it too. It’s their job and they are damn lucky to have it. I feel sorry for the crew who experience the same long hours, bad weather...for much, much less pay, perks and attention.

reply

Yeap, poor old crew, all the running they do, all that effort for basically peanuts. Doesn't seem fair in the real world. I think it will be interesting to see where J2 go after SPN finishes. If they turn out to be so lucky in their next roles. I am surprised that they gave it up without more of a fight considering what they had to loose. A steady pay check is what I thought at one time turned them on, but you never know. Kids come along and it all changes.

I think Jensen learnt a valuable lesson there with his dad.
