Supernatural star says Sam and Dean dying might be "the only way to end" the show

https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a27567728/supernatural-ending-sam-dean-death-misha-collins/

I've never heard him say this, I am surprised ^

I as many know, have never wanted either or both brothers to die in the end?

How do you still feel about this topic?

reply

There was an item on tvguide.com where Jared says they might bite the dust.

I'm totally against it. If they decide to kill them then why watch the last season since we'll already know the ending.

Not sure how I’d like it to end. If they do die it doesn’t mean there won’t be a Supernatural movie as we all know how final death is on the show. Honestly I don’t think there will be a movie made. As much as I’d love to see them on the big screen I don’t think there would be enough interest outside of fandom. What I absolutely do not want is a sappy, happy-happy, joy-joy ending. No big family/friends reunion in Heaven. No boys in the future, aged, grayed and retired reclusive cabin in the woods living out their days together. I’d almost accept a final view from the Impalas trunk with one of them telling the other, “We’ve got work to do”, with a final close of the trunk leaving us knowing that they are still out there “Saving people. Hunting things. Carrying on the family business. Remember - the guys said that they don’t want Sam and Dean to know that there’s is a final ending coming up as we do - just business as usual.

The show has exhausted so many potentially emotional "endings" already that the brothers officially dying in the end may be the only remaining proper ending the show can have.

reply

Good thinking, that DEATH has played a huge part in this show already and to many doesn't really mean that much any more. Which was partly why I didn't want them to die in this meaningless way. They have worked so hard killing monsters to keep humans safe. Why die after all that hard work. Doesn't seem fair to me.

But I can also see both sides of this coin too.

I'm still processing God being the big bad and turning the show into Once Upon a Time

reply

I only saw the first three seasons of Once upon a time, and miss it as in the uk it changed channels to one I don't subscribe too. I loved it. I must catch on that show this summer try and find it somewhere. So I don't have any opinion to your comment Sammi as I've not seen it in years. I keep thinking about God being fake, and that the fake God has the real God locked up somewhere like Asmo did with Gabe.

reply

I liked Once Upon a Time, but they had too many worlds and had this author storyline to make some things feel phony and like a lie. For Once, it was OK but ...
To make someone's life a story is annoying and gives us less of a connection to it and it being more unrealistic. Feels more and more fantasy. That's what I dont like with what they are doing with Supernatural. Creating too many worlds, heaven, hell, purgatory, the empty and now God has many and "cancels" their show. I just dont like it. I know it's supernatural, but .. I dont know if I'm making any sense.

I keep thinking God isnt God. I hope they don't dig too deep into the end..

reply

I understand you, and totally get it about the different worlds. I think that point got to me when they went into Hell and Heaven too much which are in their own way different worlds. I didn't like the AU concept at all really, I felt it was just an excuse to bring old characters back like Charlie, Bobby, Michael, Zach among others. I wasn't overly happy about Mary being back even though I did warm to her. I just like it being the boys. However, that being said, I do love Jack. When you also think back to individual worlds in episodes like The French mistake, they were doing a similar thing there even though it was only briefly. I didn't overly take to that episode or even Changing Channels which was written in another world. So I am with you wholeheartedly on this score!

The only other world I did have feelings for was Purgatory, I thought that was well written developed and constructed.

reply

The AU! Totally forgot about that one, my least favorite of all the "worlds" right next to the Empty, I mean once someone is gone, shouldn't they be gone? Keep bringing people back was cool, but now it's a constant hammer to the head...I'm over it.

Doing it once in a while, like The French Mistake, Changing Channels, or even 300th was good for fun, kicks. It's just hard to take a show serious when they strain too far from their own world. Making everything a lie is a big slap in the face to the boys and us.

I liked Purgatory.

It's funny how we see things in the same light. We watch the same show, with so many fans who have so many different opinions about certain stuff, like the acting, the writing, the directing and the direction the series is going in. What we like and don't like. But then I think that's part of the fun in assessing what we're thinking and how deep we think about stuff. I think I am so going to miss this next summer when we have nothing to gossip over. :(

reply

I think next summer is going to be all of us talking about how they "end" the show and I know there are topics from the previous seasons and what they do in Season 15 we can discuss in the future!
So..turn that frown upside down

reply

My frown is now the right way up:)
Its just me feeling depressed about the show ending, I occasionally go into one. It just gets a bit tiresome when on reflection often during summer breaks the show talks about past seasons, which season is ranked the best and so on and so on. Yawn!! ..... If not this, then the old fanfic topics come out for discussion which also bores me.

I just hope next year something positive comes out of this ending and in years to come we can look back and say, you know what that Supernatural wasn't a bad ending, more or less what I thought of. I think with J2's input I am more optimistic of a better than good ending in store. I want it to amaze me, and pull out all the stops. Not just to bring back old characters to kill them off as its meaningless, if their bought back it has to mean something. Otherwise, what's the real drama?

reply

I don't think the ending won't really hit me, until I see a promo for the series finale...
I want the ending to amaze me too, actually I want the entire season 15 to WOW me. Perhaps, I'm asking too much, but I haven't "loved" the last few seasons of the show. I've enjoyed myself of course, glad I got to see a new episode every week, but I didn't feel like I did the first, or second round of viewing season 1-11. Season 12 was a bit disappointing and I liked Season 13, somewhat.

I'm going to start a rewatch of the entire show soon and was going to note topics/questions I had, along with what stories I liked, and the ones I didn't. Maybe we could have discussion/rewatch for the boards?

reply

I know what you mean about your feelings, and the promo. We know its coming, and at least with that recording from the boys we had the heads up. At least we have that privy before hand and not had it dumped on us in the middle of the season which would have been 10 times worse.

The seasons have been a hit and miss with me too, maybe it had something to do with Dabb's writing that he wasn't as strong as he used to be. I want that last season to come back and bite me, and feel like I used to. I have gone threw dull times with the show, and at some stages found myself wanting to give it up altogether. But I found I couldn't just walk away. I had invested so much time in this show and the journey the Winchesters have been on. Their chemistry still means so much to me, and so few characters on TV ever have drawn me in like J2. My blog writing wasn't as frequent when at one time I would write religiously every day. Then gradually dipped away that bit more to may a post every three months. Mental blocks where huge torture, I wanted to write but felt unable to find any interest in engaging with others or what I loved to do, write. It's fundamental to me that the show has a decent end, a fitting one we can all love, cry, laugh, shout and scream at and most of all believe in.

A re-watch is a good idea, we have over 300 episodes don't forget, when do you see an ending in sight?? Are you talking 3 episodes a day, less or more?

reply

I've been watching this YouTuber who blames Dabb for the "bad writing" of the show and how many storylines they start and never finish, or go nowhere.

I wanted to type up a schedule, we have what? 4 months before the next season starts?
I was thinking 4 episodes a day, but that might feel too cramped, maybe 3 a day.

reply

I was thinking more 2 to 3 4 is too much for me as I can't take as much in these days so I prefer less than more. I can digest storylines better rather than rush it and not think things through properly.

I have heard you-tubers say this before about Dabb, but I guess I didn't want to take it in as I always loved his earlier stories. He was superb back in the day. I couldn't fault him.

reply

2 is good.

I agree that Dabb wrote some great episodes and some of them were with a partner. He did write the awful that is Bloodlines.

Then there is Sera Gamble, who wrote great episodes herself and then people say season 7 is the worst season.

reply

Season 6 and 7 are my least fav of the bunch. I hated soulless Sam with a passion and still do to this day. Sera wrecked Sam's heart for me, and destroyed what was good about him and they are not doing much better with Jack mk2 second time around.

Yes, Dabb wrote Bloodlines, but can forgive him for the occasional crap. I think he's done marginally better as a show-runner than Sera. I remember her saying in an interview that she only wrote per episode and didn't stretch to an arc or seasonal story-telling. Which was wasted, and untrue as Sam spent half a season soulless. I also remember J2 saying they didn't even know Sam was soulless, know wonder they didn't know how to act those scenes? They had no input from crew/writers on how to proceed.

I think re-watching as a group is a good idea, I think Allycat will be up for this too. Perhaps others might join in later. :) my frown is the right way this time ;)

reply

I feel somewhat protective or defensive whenever someone says Season 7 is the worst season, but then I think about it and not really that fond of many episodes. I did like the leviathan storyline though (I'm probably the only one that liked that). It's been a while since I've watched Season 1-11

I didn't watch the show week to week, or season to season like many fans. I binged watched Season 1-10/11, so I feel when you watch a show like that, it's good and bad in a way. I don't get to take in along with fellow viewers vs. getting to watch it on my own time and knowing I have more to watch. Sorry, I feel like I went off the path!

This might sound obsessive or nerdy, I'm not sure which, I like to think organized, but I wrote down all of the episodes to see how long it would take to watch episodes, and I'm going to Vancouver on vacation in September, so I might have to watch more episodes in a day. Also, Dabb did write a lot of my favorite episodes, I don't know what happened. I think Kripke and Carver did great as showrunners, I guess Kripke goes without saying.

I'll make a post for a re-watch

reply

Let me know when. I have a screwy schedule but I would do my best!

reply

How many did he write with Loflin. I think at least in the past he was a decent writer - he’s just a crappy Showrunner.

reply

Loflin wrote quite a few, would have to research to give you a definite answer. He was a skilful writer, would he have been better at running the show? We'll never know. Would love you to join in with the re-watch thread.

reply

Loflin I think wrote about 18 episodes, including a few on his own.
Season 4-8

Ha-ha-ha, the Lost ending!
They all meet up with all the people they've lost in Heaven.
