Rate 12.17 - The British Invasion

Well, that was depressing.

reply

Still and hour and half for me. But it doesn't sound good.

reply

Good luck. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Loved- Eileen
Hated- the Mick thing

Gave it the same grade.

Wow just when I didn't think the show could get any worse. The Duo take it to a new low. I don't even know where to begin. At first I was mostly disappointed because Jared and (mostly) Jensen were barely in this episode. Now I'm glad they weren't. What a freaking mess.
This is just one of those seasons. We have to muddle through it and hope that Dabb will course correct next year. Someone must be looking out for the J's and the show. They can't want it to go out like this.

Yeah, you know how you felt sick after watching the Dabb/Singer preview, and I just felt inexplicably angry? I'm thinking we picked up on a subconscious level how bad this episode was going to be and what it ultimately means for our little show. I managed to cool off and talk myself around, but then the actual episode happened.

reply

Also, I'm really curious to find out why it is that Kelly is now going to die as a result of having the nephilim, but Cas and his team believed that Lily Sunder was alive and well after having what they thought was a nephilim.

reply

From what I understand no one is allowed to edit or correct a nepotism script. I wonder how many production people hoped that no one would notice.

reply

"From what I understand no one is allowed to edit or correct a nepotism script."

Really? I guess that explains a lot. Well, it's obvious they live in their own little bubble where they don't have to watch other episodes of the show, not only in previous seasons, but the current one as well. They don't care enough about the show to do a good job, so to have nobody correcting for egregious errors, like once again saying that Michael is Lucifer's little brother, is ridiculous.

"I wonder how many production people hoped that no one would notice."

They should know by now. Fans pick up on everything.

I like to think they have some level of power seeing as the CW is desperate to hold on to this show.
Can't they set a few conditions before they sign on the dotted line? I don't know.. :(

reply

Oh dear. It wasn't good. I had warmed towards Mick - so of course they have to kill him. And I loved Eileen. I loved that her nose was all red from the cold in that one scene. It made her so real in an episode where everyone else was posturing and pontificating.

The Brits are badly acted stereotypes - Harry Potter meets James Bond. And I want to strangle Mary with my bare hands.

Sam and Dean were hardly there.

It was just awful. 2/10

Surely Andrew Dabb will be replaced next season?

reply

"Surely Andrew Dabb will be replaced next season?"

If the ratings continue to slide, maybe he will be, but the whole network's ratings are sliding, so maybe they'll just think it's in line with that.

reply

Well that's true. Ratings are sliding on all networks not just CW. People are moving away from network TV preferring Netflix or HBO, etc. where they can binge a season or watch when they want, plus there's SO MUCH stuff on TV these days. I think that pretty soon the Nielsen ratings will be useless. How we watch TV is changing.

However, this wasn't a good episode - bloody awful in fact. Andrew's Brits versus US hunters storyline is just plain annoying. Crowley is being hoodwinked again by Lucifer. Mary was brought back... why? So we can hate her? Sam and Dean are mostly MIA. Did Dean ask about the colt BTW?

reply

When Mary then Sam joined up with the Brits, they kept saying that they are saving people. I wanted to shout "and what have you been doing so far?????"

Have some predictions. (Have fun with these as I'm usually wrong.) Mary will find out that Ketch has been ordered to kill her boys and she will kill him. The Head Mistress I'm guessing will be killed by Sam. It will be after Dean gets hurt and Sam finds out what the BMOL are really about. That once a monster always a monster and must be killed and obey the code no matter what.

Also the clue to what might be a storyline. Mick said the key they have for the bunker opens all other MOL locations. That means they have a way in to the British location.

"Mick said the key they have for the bunker opens all other MOL locations. That means they have a way in to the British location."

Gate crashing the BMOL, now this is worth taking a plane for, Dean!

reply

"Surely Andrew Dabb will be replaced next season?"

Only if the network thinks there's a problem. I'm not 100% sure they do :(
SPN remains at the top of the pack. DC shows and SPN rule the network and SPN is even beating Arrow, and also Legends on a good day. It was only outranked by Flash and Supergirl the undefeated number 1 and 2 last week.
Creatively the season sucks imo but I'm not sure it's reflected in the ratings.

I think it has, at least in the demo's. The premier was at .8, now we have had a couple of .5's. I still believe there will be at least one .4 this year. That means Dabb cut the demo in half. Dabb can try and spin that but that isn't normal for this show.

reply

Let's hope you're right. I desperately want someone to intervene 😪
