In season six they started the first line of monsters with Alphas. Yet I feel it was berter when it was shrouded in mystery. It seemed it all happened when they left the garden and the first demon was created. Yet none of them remind me of an ancient one like Cain or even showed any advanced skills.
I feel underwhelmed at the moment since they killed off the Alpha Vamp when we all saw him as a huge threat in S6. I think they could go somewhere with the Alpha's, and they have mountains of stories to explore them. They are important to the creation of those beings, as they are the first. So the more they delve into their nature, their way of life I think it would be a really interesting concept to carry on with. But since Mr Vamp has been shot in the head I doubt they will continue on with it now. Introducing him, was all for nothing.
I agree for the most part. The only Alpha who held my attention was the Alpha Vamp.
I think an issue with the show might be that the monsters are simply too modern which makes them look basic.
The Djinn started out looking awesome, now that's anybody with a tattoo. Most the angels are in boring suits.
There's no sense of drama or atmosphere to make the monsters look and feel different. Alpha Vamp was the only one who actually had the feel of monster 'royalty'. I wish the wardrobe, set and make up was a bit more dramatic for some of these otherworldly beings.
I really liked the Alpha Vampire. I think he brought gravitas to the role of Alphas and monsters in general, but I think it's primarily down to the actor. If they could get similarly talented actors for the other Alpha roles, kept the Alphas intimidating, dark instead of comedic, and almost all-powerful, then I would be onboard with seeing more of them. The only problem is that now the Colt is back in play. It takes the intimidating factor away from them.
I guess that the writers will have to come up with something creative to make the Colt useless again, or nothing is going to be a threat anymore. Obviously, archangels are on that list of 5 things that the Colt can't kill, and possibly his spawn is also on that list. We don't know the other 3 (Possibly Death if the only thing that could kill him was his scythe). Maybe whatever the other two things are could be 'big bads' in the future, but as of right now, there's very little that will be a challenge as long as the Colt sticks around.
Maybe that's it. Everything is to modernized and easy. Of they did make a few changes and have is new creatures I could see it going back to it's former glory.
