Spoilers for 12.16

Here's the synopsis. This is already a thread, but I thought I'd put it here to give some context to the rest: A WOLF IN THE NIGHT – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) let Mick Davies (guest star Adam Fergus) tag along on a case as they search for a werewolf. The three men run into Claire Novak (guest star Kathryn Love Newton), also working the hunt. However, the reunion is short lived after Claire is bitten and the brothers race to find a way to help her before she turns. Amyn Kaderali directed the episode written by Meredith Glynn (#1216). Original airdate 3/30/2017.

Thoughts?

Mick Davies being useless, Claire acting like the rude annoying brat that she is.
Only way the guest star selection could get worse is if they added Mary to the mix.

reply

Again, after this week's episode not sure about this one. Claire isn't a favourite and without Jody in toe seems a nightmare. It might be interesting to see how Mick gets on but that's about it. Not brilliant that Claire is back on the scene.

reply

You didn't like this episode, Belle?

reply

I did and didn't Vee, bit of both. I gave it a real lowish score which isn't like me. I feel it's treading old ground just a bit. Tired of Lucifer and Crowley squabble, tired of Dean and Crowley bromance stuff. Even Sam killing the hellhound felt as though it had been done before, remember the trials? I did love a lot about it, stuff like Dean's laundry comment, Dean telling Sam about pulling out of the Men of Letters if it goes bad. Of course SMART Crowley over Lucifer. Some of it felt predictable, the stuff with the demons and Lucifer. But then they were clever in trying to outsmart Crowley in letting out the hellhound and wasn't the usual crossroads deal like we've seen a million times before. I did give 7.5. Was I too harsh in my scoring?

Just a bit underwhelmed seeing Claire again Next week.

reply

I see your point. Lol! I'm the last person you should ask if you were harsh in your scoring.
I gave "The Raid" a 4/10, and I was being generous (the starting point was 2.5/10), and I rated most of this season's episodes a 6 in my reviews, which means I didn't find them good. Good = 8.

I'm not enjoying season 12 one bit, but I'm definitely in the minority on the board as I LOVED "Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell". Gave it a 9.
It had so many of the things I like about SPN, it was the most enjoyable episode of the season for me after "Regarding Dean", my 10/10 for S12.

I'm in complete agreement with you when it comes to Claire. She's probably going to spend the episode rolling her eyes, being rude, calling all the grow-ups lame. This idea that she could be part of a successful SPN spin off is strange to me.

reply

I am actually optimistic about this episode. Glynn is writing this and she is the most pro-dean writer I have seen this year. He might actually have something to do this episode.

reply

Something to look forward to!

reply

It's nice to see some optimism. I really like Glynn as a writer too. It should be interesting.

I'm wondering if Claire is going to make it out of the episode or if she's going to go wind up like the girl at the end of American Nightmare. Maybe she'll be cured, or not cured, but given something to 'take the edge off the bloodlust' or something, and Mr. Ketch will clean up the problem. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and Dean or Sam get a phone call from Jody wondering if they've seen Claire. They'll start looking into it and see all the people who have gone missing after they thought a case was finished, and that will put them directly against the BMoL.

I'd like it more if they had Claire stay a werewolf, had Mick saying they need to put her down, and then had Sam and Dean come into direct conflict with the BMoL by the next episode, but I'm willing to let it play out over a few episodes as long as Sam and Dean are not with the BMoL for long.

reply

Hopefully, she ends up in Hell being forced to bullwhip herself for all eternity for being such a brat.

reply

Ah, you did some research. Guess you could also see what I wrote about Claire in the Ladies Drink Free thread.

I'm not sure that if she's in Hell, Crowley would have her bullwhipping herself for all eternity, since he prefers the line at the BMV method of torture or whatever it was he had Bobby doing in his cell. She'd probably just end up rolling her eyes and huffing for all eternity in a line or in her own personal cell. And that's if she gets 'cured,' which it looks like she might. If she didn't, she'd probably just end up in Purgatory.

reply

BMV isn't punishment enough. She needs to be bullwhipped.

reply

You didn't like this episode, Belle?

Vee, I loved how ya called me Belle? ;)

reply

I wonder if you were going to notice lol. :DDD

reply

Oh how I wish we had our emoticons back and a LIKE button, hint hint!
Of course I noticed. ;)

:p

I noticed just now on the main discussion page that the board might be down as they are adding more data today. So if it goes blank we know why.

reply

I don't know why they don't just flagellate Claire. She's a brat and she needs to be whipped as punishment for it. Gail had the right idea.

reply

Yes, any kid who behaved like her would have been punished with 100 whiplashes in real life.

reply

Damn straight.
