Rate Episode 12.15 Somewhere between Heaven and Hell

So, what'd you think?

The Crowley/Luci conflict was awesome! I knew Crowley had something up his sleeve other than Cage chains. He showed a lot of patience before finally revealing his Ace card. I can't wait to see how the rest of it plays out. Added some much needed spice to an otherwise bland episode interrupted by way too many commercials!!

reply

I need to re watch. I lost interest about 5 minutes in.

reply

Not much tbh.

Dean missed the action again and his characterisation was way off (he's just a grubby slob who still berates his brother for bad driving and knows nothing about computers, hyuk hyuk). Hellhound trashes Baby after Sam is warned to take care of her - didn't see that one coming...

Sam learned a Valuable Life Lesson about lying to Dean in a clunky conversation with damsel of the week.

More Luci/Crowley (tired) sick banter, but to be fair Crowley clicking his fingers and inflicting some pain on Luci did make up for that somewhat.

Castiel sucked into a union of angels again and not mentioning it to Sam and Dean, thus lying by omission.

Even Jensen wearing specs couldn't save this one.

reply

Hi folks, even though I'm a couple other places, I figure I'll try and participate occasionally here too.

So a good place to start is by giving this one a whopping 0.5 out of 10, and that half point is only for the twist whereby Crowley isn't as dumb as he's been acting and actually has Lucifer completely under his thumb. I don't really care about this storyline, but since I expected the entirely predictable outcome of Luci getting free, I was actually caught unawares by Crowley's trick. Well done, sir.

Other than that, I despise Perez and his staunch anti-Dean attitude so much, which clearly comes from the top down (aka Dabb), that even Crowley flirting with Dean and the "Lucille" gag that I fully credit Jensen for wasn't enough to give this episode any kind of props. I am beyond fed up with Dabb and his anti-Dean lackeys using Jensen's paternity leave - which was well over by this shooting point - as an excuse to routinely toss him off to the side, which has been going on all season long.

reply

So far there is only one writer that has any interest in Dean this season. Pretty pathetic.

reply

I know, right now, as far as I can tell, Meredith Glynn is a Dean fan. People keep saying Yockey is good for Dean, but quite honestly I can't even recall which episodes he wrote. But it's definitely slim pickings for Dean fans now.

reply

I didn't like this one. I think Davy Perez should be barred from writing Dean in his scripts. Either he dislikes Dean or he has no use for him. Perhaps they can give Jensen even more time off, that way Dean's character can't be assassinated in any more of his scripts.

I liked Dean in glasses, Dean and Crowley, and that's about it.

I give it a 2.

reply

Not that this is any real excuse but I think Jensen was still doing baby stuff in Austin. But this was a pretty bad episode maybe a good thing he wasn't in town.

About the only thing that was remotely interesting was that Mark Pellegrino was listed as a series regular.

reply

I missed that that, Pelligrino is a series regular. Does that mean his sticking around?

I liked a number of area's but then I guess I am easily pleased. I did find Dean a bit OOC though like he was sort of wading in and out.

I did love the old Hellhound was back, and that she was only loyal to Lucifer. Crowley was clever and is getting his old ways back. I also liked the twist that no one had done the usual crossroads deal and that two demons had let out the hound as a decoy to confuse Crowley.

I think if were still marking out of 10 for me 7.5 just for the old Hellhound, and Crowley getting his upper hand over Lucifer again.

reply

From what I recall, this episode was filmed after Jensen's break. But no matter Jensen's availability, Perez could have utilized Dean better. No excuses.

And, my word, if Mark P. is actually now a series regular, that's seriously disappointing. I am so done with Lucifer.

reply

7.5/10
Overall, I thought it was an okay episode. It had some fun moments; the Crowley and Lucifer parts were especially fun to watch. And the twist at the end… now there’s the King of Hell I used to love to hate! I’ve missed this version of Crowley.

I’m glad Sam realized he owed Dean the truth about working for the BMoL. But remember how at the end of Family Feud, Mick suggests that Mary is fooling herself if she believes hiding her work is what’s best for her family? Mary considers his words and decides to come clean with her sons. Confrontation- reflection- action. And while I get that lying is second nature to hunters and admitting to the dishonesty is hard, Sam should have found his own way to this realization. Having a teenager give Sam Winchester a lesson in honesty was a disappointing take on the character.

In terms of the story arc, I do like when one question is answered but several others are raised. Now we know Dean is on board with working with Mick and Ketch, but how long will the Winchesters continue to work with the BMoL? Will Dean’s compassion rub off on Ketch or will Ketch rub off on Dean? Does getting back into heaven mean more to Cass than his friends? What does Crowley have planned for Lucifer and does it involve taking revenge on Rowena?

I still don’t like the BMoL but I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

reply

I was ok with this one. Glad Sam came clean about the BMOL but was somewhat surprised that Dean said he would work with them. Not sure how this is going to play out. Even though Dean works with Sam, it's rare to work with others.

Absolutely love the ending with Crowley and Lucifer. When Lucifer got free of the chains I really thought he would be out the door wrecking all kinds of havoc. But when Crowley said he had full control I actually for the first time cheered for him. That's the Crowley of old that we've been missing.

Looks like Cass is going to be misled, again. I'm wondering if once he gets to heaven he'll be put on trial of sorts. He so wants to be accepted and doesn't think twice about it.

Poor Baby. I think I heard her say ouch a couple of times.

Since this is a relatively new board, I will trust Miss Bella and give it a go. I normally post/lurk on another board, but it doesn't get much activity these days. So, here goes.....and yes, I copied it right from the other board!

So…..um…..well….aah…..yeah.

Someone refresh my memory. I missed a part. Probably when I was dozing off. Why did the hellhound come after the guy, who didn’t make a deal and sell his soul 10 years ago, in the first place?

I ‘get’ the hellhound stalked the girl because she hit it with an axe, but it waited until after the brothers visited and then left, to attack her? Did I get that right? Really?

So tired of Lucifer. Put him back away in the cage and let’s move on show. Love Crowley. I’d rather have him spat and bicker with Rowena then watch these painful scenes with Lucifer.

Stupidest scene ever? Two demon minions reading from a scroll. Yes, rolling my eyes….boring.

Cas, Cas, Cas. What have they done to you? Babble, babble, ramble and roil. Good Grief! Yet another lame angel talk about heaven. Blah. How about Cas and Dagon, the yellow-eyed prince(cess) of hell go at it? Yeah….how about that? They meet, they fight, she gets away, he chases….repeat next episode.

I’m kinda missing Ketch. How sad is that?

Best part – and I mean, best – of the entire episode was Dean telling Sam to take care of her and Sam taking a moment to stumble that Dean meant the car. And then he let her get trashed and Dean says that’s why Sam doesn’t drive. Heeheeehee.

Which, of course, I didn’t get the gist of at all. Must have dozed off again. I did quite a bit last night. Why, did they send Sam and girl-of-the-week off in the car again? Missed that part too.

Which brings me to, if we are going to watch Dean and Crowley wander down a lane in the dark, let’s have entertaining conversation…..come on, can’t be that hard to write sarcasm and wit and dry humor between two fren-enemies, now, can it?

Yes, apparently it is. ‘Cause whoever wrote this episode failed epically.

Boring. Boring. Boring.

I don’t mind side plots and B storylines, I just want them to be good, interesting, and NOT STUPID!

So....I rate it a very firm 4.

reply

Because when hellhounds are let off their leash, I guess they want a chew toy, and that guy was it. I think they said it was because the dead boyfriend ran away from it.

Why did they send Sam and the GotW off in the car? Stupid plot contrivance. There was no reason for it. Dean and Crowley went to do the 'oh so much more dangerous job of tracking it in the woods,' instead of staying with the girl. They found its den. Of course the hellhound went after the girl. That's what it was after most of the episode.
