If any of you have a social media account and know of previous friends who were on this forum, send a message out and see if we can get old posters to come back help keep the board active. Or even like I did, if you have their email addresses write to them and say hey, we still here just in another place.
It's difficult to say what could help this board. I'm not in contact with anyone, and not big with social media in general. There are quite a few users here, and it's especially nice that this new board brought in some former lurkers, but there's still not much activity. I'm not up to date with the show and try to avoid spoilers, so I can't really contribute to the discussions either..
I've let a few people know but other than that I don't know what to do. I think the few of us that are here need to start conversations that maybe some lurkers might want to join in on?
Cass was it you that jumped onto WFB to let me know Bella and Virile were reaching out about this site? If so you are my personal "Cas". ;). Dean has his angel, I have mine...
Well done Bella for bravely posting about this site on Wayward Children, however as that was started as an alternative to IMDb I wasn't surprised at the response! But some of the old posters might see your comment and come and try here.
I was just nicely letting them know that all was not lost, IMDb is still here just under another name. They may not know it exists. I know a number over there and hope they do see my comment.
And that surprises you considering who runs it? In the past, she and her posse were nothing if not laser focused at pointing out inappropriate behavior (real and imagined - mostly imagined) while ignoring their own. I really can't see where it would be any different on the new site.
I'm curious, have the words troll or victim shaming been used yet? Two of my personal favorites that we were exposed to over and over and over again.
I just read Bella's post there and it hardly warranted Snows response. Are they afraid of competition or something? How ridiculous that Bella be sniped at for spreading the word about another site. Over reaction much? Sorry she felt the need to be so abrasive with you Bella.
I can take it on the chin. I wasn't trying to poach their members just letting the crowd know IMDb wasn't a sunken ship that they feared. It was still there just in another place. Oh how I miss my emoticon's. Thanks for the support though appreciated.
Thanks, clueless I think it's because people don't know its here. That our threads were even saved by some very kind person. So it's taken us a while to spread the word and hope people take the initiative and take a look and hopefully stay. I am so pleased it's picking up. Give it six months and we will be back to our old selves.
It was incredibly nice. I don't see any advertising on here yet, so it doesn't appear to be for profit . . . yet. Maybe it'll stay that way. I've really missed the discussion threads on IMDB. Not just with Supernatural, but with all the movies too.
After watching a new film, it was just standard operating procedure for me to go on IMDB and see what other people were saying about it. Sure, some of the things people said were useless trollery, but by and large, you could get different perspectives on things like symbolism and directing styles too.
I'm on wayward children which is how I found out about this board. I like it. I had a much worse experience on previously tv. If they don't agree with your opinion they jump all over you and yell at you to post on their bitterness board. So far I haven't found a major board with posting as constant as IMDB. I think there will be some crossover for awhile until one board really starts pulling away with members. It wouldn't hurt to let the users of Reddit, fan forums and previously tv know about this place. I think some of the users would like this place.
I hope we don't snipe as we want it to be friendly here. I hated how it got on IMDb towards the end. We won't have a bitterness thread. Thanks for not having ago AC. I know how much you wanted to. ;) love ya!
I did actually notice the bitterness board which I guess is fair enough. But I don't also like they pigeon hole threads. People have a right to say what they feel whether you agree or not. That's what discussion is all about. Don't take them to heart their not worth it. MovieChat is IMDb just in a different place. It's going to take a while to cross-over but once they've downloaded all that previous data, and organized our tools a bit more we will be fine. It will be just like the old place. I am thrilled it's here. Audty1 stay with us and am sure you will love it just as much as IMDb.
Yeah, the bitterness board is really weird. It wasn't just people telling people to take their comments to the board it was the people who made a comment and had to qualify it with "I guess I should take this to the bitterness board".
I do plan keeping this site on my go to list. It appears to be picking up some steam and also like people post regularly. Everyone seems nice and that's all that really matters.
The set up there does seem a little odd. It's not just the bitterness thread, it's all the other threads too, so if you're in the spoiler thread, and it seems like people are having a good conversation, someone comes along and says, 'This doesn't belong here. It belongs in 'x' thread.' It kills conversation, and yes, people do say things like, 'I'm replying in 'Y' thread.' Again, it kills conversation to be moving the conversation somewhere else.
I have been trying previously.tv as well but I feel like a school girl (and I am so not!) with the moderators who seem to treat people as if they were 10 years old. "This does not belong here, read the rules" type of comment/statement coming from them. It actually makes it difficult to discuss anything as you have to double think all the time. Also agree that jumping around different threads does make it difficult to have a good conversation, however it is quite a lively board.
It does seem to be a lively board. I wonder how much livelier it is with the IMDB crowd though. I think it was a lot quieter over there before IMDB shut down.
I agree with all of you. It appears to me to be unorganized in some ways. I posted a thread and said to a friend it's gone off the front page. She looked for it, couldn't find it. So obviously it had been moved, or I hope not deleted because it wasn't getting enough attention/traffic. So not fair!
I also agree that moving a thread kills conversation which is sad because that's why people start a thread to encourage conversation.
See where the current poster is on the front page, beneath this there is a Add new post clicky with a + by it. Click on the bar, which will allow you to create a new post. Good to see you ilovedean.
Keep commenting, so the board doesn't feel dead. I think the word is out there enough, so when people stop by here to have a look, it has to look like a busy board. That's the only thing I can think to do at this point, and I think, personally, that people here are doing a good job with that.
