I started waching MC when I realised that it was a spin off. Is The Closer somethung similiar?

Yeah, it is. The Closer sets up the characters in Major Crimes.

yes, it's similar to MC and IMO it's better, I highly recommend you watch it.

Much better writing on The Closer than Major Crimes. The plots fit together better.

The Closer is infinitely better than MC. The characters don't bounce off of Capt Raydor like they did Chief Johnson. When Kyra Sedgwick left the series, the chemistry between the characters went with her.

I tried to watch MC, but gave it up after less than a season.
