Late to the party................ ..

As usual, I am behind the times with this show as well as many others. I did not have access to watch TV regularly for the past 4 years so I did not know The Closer had ended. The Closer was one of my favorite shows to watch when I had access to cable and the main reason was Kyra Sedgwick and what she brought to the show.

Now for my question for those of you who may have been fans of the show: Why did it end? Did Kyra want out of the show? I presume she wanted out or there was a disagreement about pay or something to do with her since she is the only one who did not go to Major Crimes.

I believe I read somewhere that her and Kevin trade off. That when she's filming, he's at home, and the opposite. I am glad they finished the show on a high note, instead of when it started to get old. One of the best shows ever! IMO!

I agree. I watch the show with my mom and said the same thing. Kyra and whoever else made the decision to end the show were smart and ended it when it was still a good show!!

I read that Kyra Sedgwick herself wanted to end the show because she felt she had done justice to her character and that there was nothing more for her to do with the character, or something along those lines. So yeah, it sounds like she felt she had given all her efforts and dedication to the character that it was time for her to move on.

Many shows go on far longer than they should; reality is, most shows peak around the 5th season, and after 7, they head into perilous territory, re-covering ground that has been covered. There's only so much you can say about a character, only so much change and growth you can show. Much better to leave on a high note, before the characters become predictable (The Closer was on the cusp) or stale.
