Gina Ravera

I know this is an old question, but does anyone know why Gina Ravera left the show? I know why Daniels left the squad, but not why the actress left the show. I always liked her, and it was nice to have another woman around.

I don't know why Gina Ravera left the show either, but I did like her character on the show...that new female character on the spinoff show 'Major Crimes' does nothing for me and is very bland, I prefer Gina's character Daniels.

I think there wasn't much room for character development. Brenda is very much a woman who charms and to some degree manipulates men, so her interactions with Daniels didn't have much substance, and I'm guessing that Ravera was frustrated by the lack of character development.

I don't think Brenda disliked women; rather, her interpersonal skills were just incredibly limited, and she didn't know how to be a friend or have a friend. Brenda strikes me as veering toward a narcissistic personality type, which at its most extreme = no empathy or compassion; no remorse for her own harmful actions; uses other people to reflect well on her or to serve her in some other way. Brenda's not quite that bad, but she leans in that direction -- and pretty/charismatic people [male AND female] who are hetero learn early on how to use or sort-of-manipulate others of the opposite sex but they don't have as much use for the people they can't charm, which generally means heteros of their own sex. (I assume that the same idea holds true for charismatic lesbians and gay men, but I have more experience observing pretty heteros who charm and sort-of-manipulate.)

That said, Brenda gets high marks for using her tendency-to-manipulate for the civic good rather than for personal gain -- a lot of people do for themselves only, or primarily.
