Gabriel is found out to be the leak because he told his girlfriend things that she then sold to a lawyer.
Is that really his fault? You think Tao doesn't some time confide in his wife? None of the rest of them are in relationships are they? He was manipulated. Instead of the squad understanding they get pissed. I think Gabriel is a victim just as much as anyone. No one suspects a random relationship would really be a set up
I agree, it wasn't Gabriel's fault, all he did was confide in his girlfriend (whom he thought he could trust) about some personal feelings...he could not have known that she was the mole for the lawyer. I think the other guys on the squad were acting like jerks towards him for blaming him at first and seeing him as the traitor. But on the other hand, I think they were all just overcome with feelings of hurt & betrayal in the beginning, so they were bitter towards Gabriel and not very understanding of his situation at first...but after a while as they came to terms with the truth, some of them eventually forgave him (not that he really needed any forgiving). I think only Flynn really remained hostile towards Gabriel for that and he probably lost his trust in him too...but it's Flynn, he and Provenza are the most cynical characters on the squad...though I was surprised that Provenza (being the most cynical, negative & sarcastic character on the team) were 1 of the first to forgive Gabriel.
I think the fact that most of the other guys on the team were not in relationships at the time (besides Tao), may have contributed to their lack of sympathy & understanding for Gabriel in the beginning...Tao being married, was more understanding, but then again that has always been his character, Tao has always been 1 of the most friendly, approachable and understanding characters on the team, when Brenda first joined the squad as team leader, Tao was also the first detective on her team who welcomed her and was pleasant towards her, while everyone else treated her with resentment or negativity. Tao is also not the sort of person to hold a grudge for a long time.
You're letting him off the hook too easily. This isn't just any old workplace -- he confided highly sensitive information, and he should have known better.
In one ep of The Good Wife, a man asks his wife for one piece of information that he really needs, and she refuses to give it to him, because she's a sworn officer of the court and she -- rightly -- takes her job and her oath seriously. I realize that detectives might not take a formal oath, but they should have the common sense to understand that all workplace details must stay in the workplace. *IF* Tao confided a little to his wife of many years, that might be understandable -- true commitment there and a very long one at that -- but to confide anything to a person one has known for only a year? Bad bad bad judgement, and Gabriel deserved all the disapproval he got.

I agree that he should have known better. He trusted someone he didn't know well enough with highly sensitive info.
I do think though that he was judged very harshly by some of the others in the department. Gabriel is young and excellent at his job, and he has other excellent qualities, both in character and vocation.
As for Tao perhaps confiding to his wife, I also agree is different. People who are married, I assume, tell each other everything and keep it confidential. That's idealistic of me, but I think more understandable to be ok with spouses sharing secrets.
As for Provenza: I liked that aspect of the story line. I felt that Provenza was more understanding because he's more of a romantic. He's cynical when he's not in love, and a head over heels romantic when he is. He knows himself well enough to understand how it feels to be in love and get carried away.
Flynn surprised me by being so hard. He's a recovering alcoholic and they know how it feels to mess up. But, people are complex..
Flynn shook his hand and accepted his apology, but then told him to transfer out. The only one who didn't accept his apology was Julio.
shareRecall that Sharon Rader commented on this when speaking to Brenda and Pope. It is technically a violation to discuss anything outside of the department. However, she also admits, common for officers to discuss the day with their spouses/significant others. Its not usually an issue. It was a major issue here because the girlfriend was passing it on to Goldman, and was being paid to do so.
