Hollywood remake is being developed

http://www.hollywood.com/movie/A_Bittersweet_Life_Remake/3530400

Gold Circle Films seems to love korean film remakes. They're releasing this year a remake of Korean romantic comedy megahit "My Sassy Girl". Rumor says it's going straight to DVD.

reply

Any other source to confirm this?

But yeah, no surprise hollywood will be interesting in remaking this. Almost every sucessfull Korean flick of the last years is already on the hollywood remake factory, or might be in the future.

How about no one? If this movie gets remade ill be pissed. He's an incredible actor that gave a A+ performance. There also remaking take of two sisters, instead of being copying morons they should release the originals in theaters Hollywood Blows.

There's a thesaurus in the library. Yeah is under "Y". Go ahead, I'll wait.

You say it like it isn't to be expected. ALL hollywood movies are either sequels, prequels, remakes of old films, tv shows, or foreign movies.

reply

haha it cracks me up how people get pissed off when there's a remake being made, as if it really affects them in the least. I just watched this movie, and it was awesome, but I could care less if they do a remake, what the hell does it matter to me? It probably won't be as good as the original, and I probably won't even bother seeing it, but who cares? And if one of my friends says "Oh man that movie [remake] was awesome!", I'll just show them the original and set them straight on the true classic.

reply

I wouldn't say "pissed off" but rather annoyed. I put up the price of a ticket and Hollywood is too lazy to put any effort into coming up with their own work. Its a matter of crappy customer relations.

reply

they're not forcing you to see their movies, you can watch foreign movies all the time if you wanted to.

reply

I don't watch these remakes and no, my life doesn't change at all. In the same way, hollywood studios won't mind me saying in an internet forum what a bunch of lazy hacks they are, because...they are. I'm not discovering any new light in this issue of course, but again, is just a fact that can't be denied.

reply

That's exactly my opinion. It shouldn't bother me but in a way it's just annoying that most movies recently coming out of Hollywood studios are remakes of foreign movies or comic adaptations.. and if that wouldn't be enough - they bring sequels to these flicks. Then they stuff these movies with product placement in such a huge amount that some seem like two hour commercials. The scripts of these movies are often so lame, making the fuzz about the writers guild strike seem just ridiculous ;)

reply

It does bother me... becuase for 1 half these remakes are not by the original directors so some gay essentially steals some other guys work and makes it complete and utter crap under the same damn name.... So yeah it does bother and you know what irritates me the most is just the pure and utter lack of originality... thats what pisses me off not the fact that its remade its that fact that they cant be bothered doing there own thing....

Garbage. They should leave this movie and oldboy alone. I loved the Departed, but the negative side of it being a successful hollywood film, is hollywood is going to tap into making foreign/asian gangster films...13 Tzameti is being remade by Hollywood also. I don't understand why they just dont Re-release the original film into theatres.

reply

Yeah, seriously. Just re release it.
Maybe they see it not being as big just because it's not in english?

I know plenty of people who are close-minded enough to not watch a film because it has subtitles. The general reason that stuff like this doesn't have wide releases.

Nope, they can't.

What else is new?

there will be blood, lars and the real girl, gran torino, WALL-E, frost/nixon, In Bruges and Slumdog Millionaire (i think), eastern promises, grindhouse, Ratatouille, Kung Fu Panda, blood diamond, public enemies, stranger than fiction

Yeah. hollywood has ABSOLUTELY NO imagination whatsoever. yep, all it is is remakes. nothing original.

truth is, yeah hollywood makes alot of *beep* and remakes, but it produces the largest ammount of quality films than any other medium.

reply

"there will be blood, lars and the real girl, gran torino, WALL-E, frost/nixon, In Bruges and Slumdog Millionaire (i think), eastern promises, grindhouse, Ratatouille, Kung Fu Panda, blood diamond, public enemies, stranger than fiction"

-There Will Be Blood is based on a novel
-Slumdog Millionare is a UK production
-Public Enemies isn't even out yet
-Grindhouse, Kung Fu Panda, Blood Diamond, Grant Torino and Stranger than Fiction range from generic-average to awful, nothing that anyone will remember in the future

So yeah, i would reconsider the statement about them producing "the largest ammount of quality films than any other medium".

Grind house blows. And most of the movies are actually pale in comparison to Korean and European films so yeah lol. at that statement. Also Slum dog is from UK doesn't count...

The more times I watch this movie the more I don't even see a point to an American remake. We have so many gangster films already, unless they do something different (like actually make it about the Asian mafia in the U.S.) it would just be another Italian mob movie by the time they watered it down. Love this film as is, by the way.

reply

Its a masterpiece the entire movie is a metaphor disguised as an action movie it's brilliant.
