North American DVD release date

Has anyone seen or heard a release date for this film?
I'm dying to see it!

I am planning to purchase a Quiet Family.. looks funny!

I also would like some South Korean recommendations..
I have seen the Vengeance Triology and Memories of Murder
Tale of Two Sisters, Spider Forest...

Any Recommendations?

Don't know if you are anywhere close by but it's playing in the Washington DC area in June at the AFI Theater, see here http://www.afi.com/silver/new/nowplaying/2007/v4i3/korean.aspx

I too am puzzled by the lack of an R1 DVD release yet. I bought the UK PAL DVD release from Amazon.uk (I have a region-free/PAL-->NTSC dvd player). It was released by Tartan Video in the UK; they have a US division but as of yet I have not heard of an R1 release, maybe they only have the rights for the UK.

As far as recommendations, definitely check out JSA (Joint Security Area). It should be readily available at Blockbuster or Netflix. It is directed by Chan-Wook Park (Vengeance Trilogy) and stars Byung-Hun Lee (star of A Bittersweet Life) and Kong-ho Song and Ha-Kyun Shin from Mr. Vengeance (Song was in MoM too), as well as Yeong-ae Lee from Lady Vengeance!

Seems that yesasia ran out of stock with the R3 Directors Cut DVD, sigh, and i haven't got it yet. So i seriously would like to know why this hasn't been released in R1.

The Tartan Asia version is region 0, so it should play on all DVD players.
I personnally have it, and it plays on an Xbox 360 bought in North America (Canada), so it should work on pretty much everything.

I also bought the UK Tartan Asia region 0 version. It's PAL, not NTSC, and it won't play on pretty much everything. I tried it on two different dvd players, and a bluray player, it it didn't play on any of them. I paid $30 bucks (15 pounds) and it only plays on my computer. Maybe xbox 360's convert PAL to NTSC?
I'll try it on my brother's PS3, maybe it works there too?

Thankfully, the ILLEGAL version streaming at Crunchyroll has been taken down, as have ALL THE OTHERS that were streaming there ILLEGALLY. Crunchyroll was just LUCKY that they were allowed to go legit instead of getting sued out of existence once they started offering MEMBERSHIP FEES to "advanced users" to download all that content they DIDN'T OWN!

This movie has been held up for release in R1 for two reasons: 1) rampant filesharing, which does the visuals no justice since NO ONLINE VERSION can duplicate DVD or HD quality, and 2) because the star of BITTERSWEET LIFE is in the G.I. JOE movie coming out this summer, which gives a little extra marketing muscle to the people releasing BITTERSWEET in North America.

Good riddance to the old Crunchy Roll. Hopefully others will follow suit. ;)

I doubt filesharing has prevented A BitterSweet Life from being released over here, if that was the case then no foreign movie ever would be brought to america.

I also have my doubts about the G.I Joe thing, to put it simple, nobody has picked the rights to release this here, which is a damn shame to say the least.

How would that work? Wouldn't rampant file sharing only serve to hasten its official release? I think people often download illegal copies of things specifically BECAUSE that seems to be the only way to see them. I don't, but I've often been very tempted when it seems like no official R1 release (or CD pressing) is forthcoming. When it comes down to the choice between downloading an illegal copy and simply never getting to consume the content, I don't have a problem with the downloaders.

I'm surprised there ISN'T a DVD. And yeah, really the only way you CAN justify pirating is by the fact that then you aren't beholden to big corporations deciding when and how to release what. So when a movie doesn't get an American release, there's really nothing immoral at all about watching it from a website or whatever, because it's not like you could spend your money on it anyways.

I mean, in the end, any true filmmaker wants their work seen first and foremost, and if it comes down to making a little more profit or people don't see the work, you want the work seen. That's why you do it, that's the whole point.

Still, this one seems like it could be a decent seller. Surprised there isn't a region 1 DVD, really surprised. Any news on a DVD or blu-ray here in the states?
