The ending kind of gives the impression that the entire plot was a day dream or a fantasy. The entire movie is sandwiched between 2 connected shots, where he's looking out/at the window. The Shadowboxing at the end comes across as aspirational.

This might just have been the best "It was all a dream" movie I've ever seen. The bittersweet life being the life of a Hotel manager, lacking meaning and wishing for something more. In his fantasy he dies, lol imagine how *beep* he feels about his real life.

It's a nice interpretation. I personally didn't get this from the film (I thought the final scene was actually just a flashback to the earlier time, possibly a more innocent display of the fighting spirit he showed during the last hour) but it's a good way of looking at it.

I did love the final scene showing him shadowboxing for some reason but I can't really explain why. Maybe it is aspirational as you say.
