Are there really people like this?

With movies like Taken and Equalizer and many others showing these black op people with these skills. Are there really people like this? Are there these highly trained people that could do what these movies show? Or are these movies so far from reality?

I realize some of the things are setup for the movie and there are always times when you can say why didn't he just shoot him but what I am asking is are there people with special skills so highly trained they could possibly do some of what is shown?

reply

Yes there are. It's been proven scientifically that a few special humans, when in a tight situation, can actually slow time down in their mind. So instead of having a half of a second to react, it's possible, that in their mind it feels more like 3 seconds. And America does have special ops as with a lot of other countries. They are trained to take control of a situation and to not panic. Like being able to take whatever is at their disposal and use it as a weapon, and if they don't have anything, they're trained to possibly try and take the weapon from the nearest person who shows some kind of weakness. At least this is what I've learned in military strategies

reply

This is not true. There are limits to what a person can do, and even someone with world class training can't simply waltz into a room of armed men and lay them all out without weapons or a plan.

Think about it this way: The world's most dangerous hand to hand fighters are in the UFC, because that's where the money is. Those guys have exceptional reaction time. Now as amazing and talented some of those guys are (Anderson Silva in his prime, Jon Jones, Fedor Emelianenko, etc), they would still get themselves killed taking on five men with handguns.

Military types are trained differently. They have to be proficient in all modes of combat, but the emphasis is on marksmanship and small team operations, not hand-to-hand or solo.

reply

Untrue the most dangerous hand to hand fighters aren't in the UFC their just the one's who made a career of their skill sets in the entertainment industry ever heard of the Israeli special forces technique Krav Maga it's only purpose is to kill not fight in some octagon.
But of course people like Robert McCall don't exist its a film and scenes like that are cool not realistic.

"Welcome to the human race" Snake Plissken.

Watching too many Sherlock Holmes movies are we? Which by the way, this movie completely ripped off the idea from in those scenes.

I've been reading the Jack Reacher novels, the first of which was published in 1997 and the protagonist does this kind of instantaneous choreography of attacks in the books. It's possible the idea originated from other places before becoming mainstream in the Sherlock Holmes movies.

reply

Could be. But not to sound like a dik, what does Jack Reacher novels or any other origin have to do with my original comment?

HELLO!!!! You just watched Denzel do it!! C'mon now it's so obvious. ?

Films like this are an over exaggeration of real life.

There are highly trained and skilled people that might be able to pull off some aspects of what is shown, but the films essentially compress scenarios that would take entire teams and lots of planning and condense it all into one person in an unbelievable time frame.

Most of the plot lines also revolve around a high degree of luck regardless of how skilled the person is which makes them even more unbelievable outside the context of movie making magic.

So while I'm tempted to say yes there are people like this in the world, that would be about as accurate as finding a piece of sand and letting it inspire a movie about a sandstorm.

The films are basically fantasy versions of what those highly trained people wish they were and play fast and loose with reality and luck to get you there.

reply

There are many people with the skills. But they would not do as well and smooth in actionpacked multiple-target situations like in this movie.

reply

Yes.
Special Forces. Black Ops. Seals. Delta.

reply

No. Those guys are trained to operate as part of a team, not rogue operatives, and they're not martial arts masters. They are trained for things like extraction and reconnaissance, which means it they're doing their jobs correctly and things go according to plan, they don't have to fire a shot because the enemy doesn't realize they're there.

Also, you forgot to list Marine Recon, which is the equal of SEALS. Don't sleep on the Marines.

No

Best reply.

There are no such people. Just look at history. There's like ONE GUY, some japanese sword fighter, who has killed lots of people solo, in close combat.

Rest is all snipers.

There are no invincible superskilled people because you can't plan around chance, and numbers are always gonna kick your ass.

reply

Yeah, dead ones. In real life you can die unlike movies lol

SAS comes close.

reply

All you have to do is look up the stories behind some of the medal of honor recipients. Unlike what one of the other guys said, they are not snipers. Not all of them anyway.

Read the complete stories, everything from a man taking multiple gunshot wounds and still carrying brothers from the field of fire, to scaling mountains and taking out multiple machine-gun nests solo while also being wounded seriously multiple times. And yes, special ops are trained and very well versed in hand to hand combat. One of my good friends, who at one point downgraded in his military career to Army Ranger, still runs 10 miles a day at 72 and could kill you very easily with his thumb.
