Why the Equalizer?

I realize that all Hollywood seems to do nowadays is either sequels, prequels or a film version of even the most moderate successful TV show. While I realize that the name The Equalizer is still known by certain people of a certain age, so that makes it a viable name on which to make a feature film. But why on Earth do they take the name of a good 80's show & then only use so little of what made that show interesting. I like Denzel as an actor, but I still think the best choice to play McCall was & is either Brosnan or Dalton, based on their link to Bond. On the show McCall was British. The movie only alludes to his past. It make zero use of one of the shows best qualities the supporting cast. No Kostmeyer. No Control. I also makes Denzel look ordinary whereas the TV version of McCall was stylish and in no need of a job at a Home Depot like store. There is so little of what makes the show great in the film that it just annoys me that a studio has once again taken a viable franchise & for lack of a better term ruined it for anyone trying to make a film that would actually live up to the show.
