One thing that bothers me.

After the scene where the home mart store was robbed, McCall picks up a sledgehammer and it's implied he kills the robber with it. After he finishes his deed off-screen, McCall wipes the blood off the hammer and PUTS IT BACK!

I mean WTF?? How disturbing would it be if someone actually bought that thing??
To unknowingly buy something that was used in a most likely way to brutally kill someone.. is freaky.

I thought McCall would be more responsible.

If it helps, my own view of that was that he didn't necessarily kill the guy. He didn't kill the two corrupt police officers who were taking money from the restaurant and he only wounded the guy he knocked down after the diner fight so it's plausible that he only messed the robber up a bit. Knee-capped him maybe?

Putting it back was probably a clever thing to do. Any evidence on that thing would probably have been long gone after being bought by someone and smashed around on a building site for a few days.

reply

No, he for sure the implication is that killed the robber, as evidenced by the blood on the rag he wipes off the sledgehammer with.

Yes, I thought the same thing. With all the NCIS and Forensic File shows on TV today, you would think people would be more educated on this topic. They can pull DNA off items unless it gets too degraded. Sitting on a store shelf wouldn't degrade blood samples one bit. Here's a scenario: A guy buys that hammer the next day and takes it home. Which by the way, is right next door to the robber. When the cops investigate the neighborhood, they locate a hammer with the robber's DNA on it. Explain your way out of that one.

Ok...? What?? Why would the cops just go to some random neighbors house to spradically check for DNA on a sledge hammer...? Come on now...

The only thing that bothered me was the fat Mexican dude who couldn't act....how the hell did that guy end up in this movie

reply

LOL, Sutter. You are a nominee for funniest IMDB post of the month!
The acting was bad, and his character was annoying. I wouldn't mind if he whined once or twice...but the whole g.d. movie? I can't lose weight. The wiring burned down the shop. I'm too dumb to pass the test.

Although he did have one of the best lines in the film: "A buck 90 my ass."

I actually thought he was probably wiping his finger prints off it, not blood.

reply

Unknowingly is the key word.

reply

I don't see any reason to think he killed him. But putting it back makes sense. Nobody would suspect it of being a murder weapon if he did kill him.

And it was responsible. He didn't pay for it, so he had to return it. Otherwise it would be stealing.

No joke, throughout the film he's shown as obsessive/compulsive and follows his own code religiously

He went to his old handlers for "permission" before unloading on the Russians - his code wouldn't let him go after him until his old friends could assure him that his late wife wouldn't have disapproved

Sledgehammers don't have memories.
