What parents, especially when the dad is a DOCTOR, leaves their two kids, who have the FLU, with an unknown babysitter?

If the house sitter couldn't stay with them then the parents wouldn't be leaving the house. That far out in the sticks and with the flu and the parents just have to go out? I think not...

Clearly those parents weren't worried about being voted parents of the year.

And they were obviously selfish and not caring about their brats.

Perhaps Dr Mandrakis wasn't an MD but a PHD?

Or or the parents were in league with the stranger...
