Could they have picked worse intro/ending music?
Oh my gosh it is awful. "Talla taya taya...." It's like nails on a chalk board. So loud too.

shareThought it went well personally.
shareI totally agree. Horrible music selection. I had to mute the audio it was so loud and very annoying. How could they screw this up? The music from Heat is infinitely better, the bank robbing music from Heat is awesome.
shareActually it's "Chal Chaiyya Chaiyya..." and the song is great. I thought Spike Lee used it quite well in the opening sequence, I loved it. You should check out the original video for the song.
The song is actually pretty highly regarded, the BBC World's placed it in their top ten:

it could stay top of Billboard for 100 years and it still won't make a shred of sense. why put in a Tamil/Hindi song for this flick?? it's jarring not just because it sounds a little odd, but because it just didn't fit at all.
oh and it gets better at the ending, when some rapper joins in the fun. it was like Mortal Kombat, where you gotta "Finish Him" with some brutal violence.
the rest of the film was great tho. still don't get the Chaiyya.

The rap at the end was excessive, for sure. Nevertheless I enjoyed the intro.
"Andy Dufresne - who crawled through a river of *beep* and came out clean on the other side."
It's a great song, but it simply doesn't go. It would make sense if the film were set in India, but NYC? Not so much.
shareThat intro/outro music was one of my favorite parts of the film.
I turn it it way up whenever I watch it!
I love the intro song, it's different and works prefectly in the movie.

Same here. I am shocked and dismayed that so many people seem to hate this song. What’s not to like?
shareI agree 100%
shareI agree. Music sucked.
shareawful song. When there's no more room in hell, The dead will walk the earth...
This song is amazing! I think Americans need to open their minds urgently.
And, by the way, wake up and smell the coffee.
The song woulden't have ben so bad if it wasn't 70 decibals above the dialog audio. It was loud
shareAs a non-american I hated this song. Maybe stop with the baseless generalizations
shareI’m in American, but whoever it is definitely needs to open their minds.
