WWI Hair?

Rowlings in this film has highlights in his hair. Was this even on the radar back then? This was the first issue I noticed, but couldn't vet it as a period error. Kind of a minor point, but with the ton of feedback this movie is getting on here, I was surprised not to see it mentioned.

I don't remember highlights, but they need not be artificial (even if it was perfectly possible to do highlights "back then", I doubt it would be very realistic that a guy like Rawlings had them done). Tons of people have lighter shades here and there in their hair.

However, the hair in any "period movie" is usually wrong, as far as haircuts are concerned, and although this movie has some characters pretty spot on, Rawlings hair is way too long and wavy for the time period. But I guess modern audiences would find it too hard to find the lead handsome if his hair was accurately done. or at least that's what producers assume, I suppose...

PS: just checked a few pictures and you're right, his hair colour is awful! My best guess is he had had the highlights for a different movie and they thought no one would notice in this one.

I think most people don't movie the hairstyles at the time when the movie comes out, but as time goes by, it gets more and more noticeable. In 10 or 15 years, the movie will probably look more dated.

Rawlings had been working on the family ranch in the US, spending a lot of time in the sun. Could it be that his hair was supposed to look sunbleached? I know my naturally brown hair got much lighter in the summer here in Texas.

It doesn't change that much, I also have this hair feature and in the movie it looks fake as hell, I hate that they try to "hollywood" everything nowadays instead of having everything authentic.
