Would have a much better reputation if it wasn't a remake?

Am I the only one who feels this? I love the 1974 movie, but this "remake" is very different in every way. They could have just dropped the whole remake tag and chosen another name.

I've never seen the original Black Christmas but I still thought this movie was rather dumb.

I'm sure it got a lot of hate due to the trailer. Nobody likes when a trailer shows all these cool scenes just for the scenes to have never been in the actual picture. It's pretty much false advertising, especially when they re-shot these scenes on purpose just to make the trailer look better.

I don't doubt this had some backlash because it was a remake, but it also had backlash over being a Christmas set horror movie. This film was probably called "crap" by religious people who didn't even see it.

Remake backlash, trailer backlash, religious backlash vs. mediocre slasher movie.

It probably would.

Not really. That backstory was still pretty heinous

is there a reason you need to say that over and over?

bad boys for life

reply

Because giving the killer yellow skin, the incest stuff, etc. honestly almost ruined the movie for me

I remember a poster on another forum saying that "If this were an original movie released in 1985 and out-of-print, people would love it."

reply

That's the best description of it I've ever heard...

reply

that's because its considered immature to like remakes. this movie is great and better than the original

reply

True. Outside factors greatly influence peoples opinions on a film.

Every remake would have a better reputation if it wasn't a remake.

Remakes always get judged very harshly against their originators. Remaking a movie draws conflict and often very strong opinions. Many fans of the original movies take it as an afront against the original and actively hate the movie before ever seeing it.
