This movie has grown on me.
I'm not sure how I developed an affection for this movie because I was beyond disappointed when I first saw it. The original has such an awesome creepy vibe all the way through it that did not get brought to life in this campy movie. However, somehow I've gotten past that and can enjoy this movie for what it is. Really and honestly it just seems as if Black Christmas '74 and Black Christmas '06 are two different movies with similar set-ups. Though some could argue that there was plenty of comedy in the original (and there is) and the remake is only doing more of it, the lack of seriousness and creepiness to the horror element really bothered me. (In other words, I went in expecting the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and got Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.)
Damn! I just realized this movie is ten years old . . . That's actually really scary by itself. Anyway, I've mellowed knowing that this is not scary, but a fun, ridiculously gory romp of horror through Christmas lights and human jerky cookies washed down with whole milk.
