The gun's right over the door!!!

For Christ's sake, the gun's right over the door, they saw it when they went into the hotel! The guy's standing right behind the door, and he closes it and goes back into the back room? Please. First thing I thought when they came up from the tunnel into the back office was "get the gun that's over the door!"

Stupidity run amok.

First things first, is that they didn't know where they were when they came up from the tunnel, they were in a room they had never seen before, why would they immediately (I know maybe the tvs would have been a giveaway but that would be after some consideration of the situation which they had lack of time at this point to do and even the tv`s wouldnt mean it was 100 percent the room the guy was in when they entered the motel for the first time) assume it was the room connecting to the front office? Especially if they had never been to this motel before.

Second of all, right when they got up, the first thing they noticed was the phone, so they called the police instead of possibly risking their ownselves by trying to play hero.

Third of all, right after they did that they heard the killers enter the other room and approaching this one (I`m pretty sure David was about to open the door too, to find out where they were) (then I would have assumed it was apart of the front office, but it would be too late) and so they had to go back into the tunnel and run.

Watch it again, David opens the door, and sees where he is, then quickly closes it. David knew where he was for quite a while before the killers came back. He had a minute or two to remember that there was a gun right outside the door he was behind.

Oh true, sorry I clearly forgot :$ anyways though with all that was happening and many emotions factoring in including fear and stress, I think it's safe to assume that he just forgot about them or...since he called the police, maybe he didnt want to be shooting people when they showed up?

Also I think he said to the manager "might want to bring those things if they work" earlier in the movie...again I'm not for sure but I think that was the line..so maybe he just assumed they were for show and not loaded.

But who knows,

In all other instances I'd say these victims were pretty smart, smarter than most some movie victims atleast.

I think a great point is to be made here, firearms shorten horror films. It is also a reason why I carry. I've seen way too many horror films and am now paranoid. But I'd rather be paranoid and prepared then a victim.

People once came to me at weddings and said "You're next" they stopped when I did it to them at funerals

Just only realized now how ridiculous of a proposition this is.

Ask people with guns over their door if they are loaded. Most of them are jsut there for display (sans ammunition).

Considering that David is hardly a trained soldier, it's not that bothersome that he would forget the gun right then and there. He DID remember it later on.

Also, you saw that Amy had trouble pulling it out. If they had gone for the gun, they would not only need to make some noise and get attention (which would be fatal) but they also would have to be with their backs to the door. Not a good place to be.
