800 calories in the movie, 1100 calories in the book
One of the many differences between the book and the movie is this matter of the amount of calories for the slave laborers. There is an experiment described in the book involving the results of lowering the calorie intake to see how many months the 'worker' will last..resulting in many deaths and in higher intake rations for the 'more skilled'. Ironically..1100 calories may well be someone's ideal for Americans (and others) in the 'war on obesity'. (800 calories may be the ideal for those to be forced to diet...)
