Movies with frustrating endings

I love this movie and especially the ending - did he do the right thing or not?

Do you know of any similar movie endings that frustrate you as a viewer, I would love to get your recommendations.

Thank you!

Off the top of my head check out "Prisoners" one of my favourite movies and has one of those endings!

Don't read too much about it, the less you know the better. Excellent movie.

Prisoners was awesome! The thing I love about Gone Baby Gone's ending is that it's not cut and dry or black and white. Right and wrong can be argued very easily from both sides. Honestly I don't know what I would have done if I was in Patrick's shoes. Such a brutally hard choice.

I LOVE Prisoners, also one of my favorite movies. Great tip though, thank you!

You have probably also seen this one, if not you probably know the ending but how about Inception?

Off the top of my head, there was mystic river, winter's bone, zodiac, and nightcrawler. The endings leave you with kind of that melancholy things-could've-gone-better feel you know?

The Mist

Frustrating in my opinion is not sad, or happy, but rather unsatisfying either way. It leaves many things open and complicated, it does not really satisfyingly resolve the chracters fate. Frustrating also as in that was obviously the intention of the creators - not frustrating as in the endinng involving some twist or resolution that makes you groan, or that disappoints you (e. g. ending of Lost, Knowing, etc.).

So that said:

American History X. That is the most frustrating ending I have ever seen. No. 1, not even close. If you havent seen that film, check it out and dont read spoilers of course. ;-)

No Country for Old Men.

Zodiac.

Funny Games. That ending resolves matters, but it is frustrating.

Chinatown.

Gone Girl.

Nymphomaniac.

Birdman.

Mullholland Drive.
