Alamo's ladies only night

I'm a guy, and I think this is awesome. I know there are some "meninists" (lol) out there who feel attacked or whatever, but that's silly. That literally only effects you if you'd already had plans to see this particular movie that particular night at that particular chain. Get over it and drive your ladies, and consider not being able to vote or have autonomy over your own body.

Why is it awesome ?

reply

It's not a big deal, but also not awesome. I don't feel attacked, that's just silly, as you've said. I just don't want more segregations. Any segregation for non technical reasons is bad for society.

Who defines someone may be ladies or gents for a 'ladies night' anyway? What if some transvertites want to get in? How about some effiminate crossdressing men? Do they check for a wee wee before entering the theater, or they just grab 'em by the pussy?

This is just pure marketing to drive some buzz around. I love DC, but these advertising tactics are just low.

It's not the "girls' night" that bugged me. It's the silly statement the theater made for "girl power" with everyone working that night being a female. As if women are so insecure they need to have safe girly spaces to boost their self esteem. They also said anyone who "feels" like a female can attend, as well. So what's the point?

reply

As a female I say it's mind-mindbogglingly dumb.

reply

Yes as a girl I actually find this offensive. Like one of the posters above me said it feels very patronizing.
Almost like
"She we made this fantasy film where a girl is so bad ass ....see this is now going to solve all the problems in the world.... on top of that there is this safe place for all you girls to go because after all you need SPECIAL treatment"...

I also want to know when it is girls only:
Do they mean girly girls only? What about butch girls? What about transgenders or effeminate men? How do they actually draw this line?

"Get over it and drive your ladies, and consider not being able to vote or have autonomy over your own body. "

Really feels like you are overdoing it a bit. Sorry but you come off really needy.

reply

hate to break it to you, but "Get over it and drive your ladies, and consider not being able to vote or have autonomy over your own body. " does not come off as needy... it comes off as compassionate and empathetic, which i and most women i know really appreciate.

You may as well talk about the Irish potato famine, because you and I have never suffered through that and you've never suffered from not having to vote. Talking about things like that simply diminishes you as a class of people and makes it look like you want to wallow in perpetual victimhood. Everyone in the world could bring up past inequities to go "woe is me" about if they wanted to. I hate Hitler but I don't try to point out how I'm part Polish so I'm one of his "victims." I would look like a clown trivializing actual Holocaust victims if I did. Just like you look foolish equating yourself with women from the past who actually couldn't vote.

"alking about things like that simply diminishes you as a class of people and makes it look like you want to wallow in perpetual victimhood. Everyone in the world could bring up past inequities to go "woe is me" about if they wanted to."

Wow perfectly put.

I am also tired of people trying to play the victim for things that have actually got nothing to do with them.
I think it is really attention whoring.

I completely agree with Jedi Jones. Try to be part of something that you never experienced just to make yourself feel important is needy.

The OP is needy because he/she actually thinks this stupid ladies only night for present day women who can vote is somehow linked to women who did not have the right to vote in the past is laughable.

Consider a country that offers no legal protections against you being killed when you're in the womb.

reply

Others have already said it, but I'll reiterate. It's just a dumb idea.

reply

What is that supposed to mean>

reply

I can't speak on AP's behalf for their absolute meaning with that statement but my take from it was, as a concept, it is not a very intelligent one.

I hope that helps :)

reply

Yup. Pretty much.
