is it worth watching just to see how bad it really is?

i have heard a lot of people say it might be one of the top 5 worst movies ever with a big star in it.

I saw it for the first time a few days ago---I thought it was good. A VERY original plot that through it's uniqueness alone makes it very interesting and entertaining. I saw the one from 1973 about ten years ago, both get 7/10 in my rating.

reply

No, it is not so bad a movie. Though the 1973 original film is far
superior. I gave it a 8/10 rating on imdb and 4/10 for the remake.
An okay movie to watch on cable or to rent thru Netflix though you
may find the dvd in the $5.00 bargain bin at your local Walmart!
Just my opinion.

Is Nic Cage's acting really that bad in the entire film?

reply

I'm afraid so.

I actually went to see this movie in the theater when it first came out. I remember thinking, " they should burn the actual movie film, so it will never be watched again."

reply

Even the infamous "Not the Bees" and "How'd it get Burnt" are really only funny and bad when viewed in isolation. When viewed in the context of the movie as a whole they don't really stand out that much to me.

What about the punches and judo kick? Each punch is cinematic gold.

Frankly, it was actually okay until Nic Cage goes bonkers, and the "big reveal" that makes you question the logic of everyone in the village.

I finally watched it tonight after wanting to see it for ages. I saw it with a couple of friends, and just told them to watch it as a comedy.
If you watch it with those expectations, it's a riot! So many weird shots, awkward pauses and wtf-moments. Funniest movie I've seen in a while.

It wasn't even bad... the acting is hilarious and bizarre but people are hating it for being different. I honestly preferred it to the original if not only for the fact that any lulls are made up for by way of lulz.

I don't think "The Wicker Man" is THAT bad. Just disappointing- especially when compared to the superior original. Of Cage's acting I think there were perhaps 4 moments where he was unintentionally funny, and the other 97% of his performance he did a perfectly acceptable job. It's the girl who plays his ex-girl friend that is really awful, but I would blame the script and director for not allowing her to form complete sentences in almost any scene she's in. Sure, the animal costumes look dumb, and I got sick of the sound of buzzing bees, but, even with it's obvious flaws, I think this is just one of those movies where it's become the thing to do to join the pile on (whether some of the detractors have seen it or not). Personally, I think it would have to be a lot worse to reach the depths of "Jaws The Revenge" or "Beyond The Poseidon Adventure" (both starring Michael Caine).

its decent, a solid 7/10 for me. I actually think Cage does a good job in this.
basically, it's fashionable to rip on Nic Cage for some reason these days.
