Buyers dig 'Catacombs'

Hot off their boffoboffo box office bow of "Saw II" Stateside, Lions GateLions Gate Films and Twisted Pictures have seen brisk business at the American Film Market for their new horror thriller "Catacombs."
Pic, written and directed by Tomm Coker and David Elliot, was shot in Bucharest, Romania, and Paris earlier this year and stars Shannyn SossamonShannyn Sossamon and Alecia Moore (aka Pink).
Lions Gate Films Releasing will distribute in the U.S.; Lions Gate Intl. has been selling off overseas rights to the pic at the AFM, which wraps today.
Film is about a young woman who travels to Paris for the first time and goes to a party at the city's famed catacombs, where the remains of millions of people are buried. Separated from her friends, she becomes convinced that someone -- or something -- is chasing her.
Lions Gate Intl. said Tuesday it has sealed deals in a number of territories including the U.K. (Redbus), Japan (Digital Site), Germany (Universum), France (Metropolitan), Italy (Eagle), Taiwan (CMC), Benelux (Paradiso), Portugal (LNK), Turkey (PRA/Fida), Singapore (Shaw Renters), Indonesia (PT Amero Mitra), Arabic-speaking Middle East (Eagle Films), Czech Republic/Slovakia (Hollywood Classic), CIS (West) and the Baltics (Acme).
