'Catacombs' movie review = 2 thumbs down

My boyfriend and I saw a free screening of CATACOMBS last night. On a scale of 1 to 10, that movie was a 2. Very disappointing and possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. You know how some movies are at least "decent" or "ok"? Well, this movie was just bad.

It was a classic example of decent acting in a horribly written movie. The "monster" appeared briefly 1/3 of the way into the movie and never appeared again. A good 75% of the movie was watching a girl running and screaming through a maze. It got annoying after a while, especially since nothing else really happened. I started thinking, "What happened to the monster? Is she running because she's afraid of the monster? Or is she just screaming because it's just too dark?" Oh ya, literally a very difficult movie to watch because practically the entire movie is shot underground so the lighting was very dim. Just to note, I closed my eyes for 5 minutes at a time, only to notice that I wasn't missing much and that the girl was still running and screaming through a maze! And, just when I couldn't have a worse opinion of the movie, the ending didn't even make sense.

We obviously weren't alone in our opinions. I saw at least 5 couples get up and leave even before the movie was halfway. We wanted to leave early too but decided to give it a chance just in case the movie got better (big mistake!). After the movie on our way out, I heard at least 3 people refer to the movie as "garbage."

That was a wasted 2 hours of my life that I wish I could take back...

I agree it was terrible. Did your eyes hurt too because of the continuous times the movie flashed lights into the audience??!! I was sitting 3rd row infront of the screen. Just imagine looking up at the screen! UGH.

SPOILER ALERT!:

It looked like someone cut off a dead cow's head, turned it inside out or skinned it, and stuck it on their own head like a mask...

And the person wearing this so called mask was in a car mechanic type jumpsuit. I think they didn't do anything to the hands. So it was a gross-minataur head on a human body. It's really lame when you see it on screen. Did I mention it had horns...?

do you remember anything about the music?

my favorite artists, hybrid, worked on the score of the film and i'm going to have to see it just for the music.

hybrid have also done the score for man on fire and domino.

Hey Sherryllyn do you suppose that this movie will be better when its released in theatres? Because I know that sometimes that early screenings sometimes are the unfinished versions, before editing, CGI, and ect. Or is this movie just hopeless? It would seem like such a waste. I mean what a fantastic premiss...lets just hope it gets better...

It's hopeless. Nothing can help this movie. If you can even call it a movie...

Well, Pink is in the 1st act and in one of the last scenes of the film. She's supposed to be the "know it all" character. I don't think her role is that big. Sure, she talks about the catacombs. But I didn't grow attached to her or anyone else's character. Her acting isn't that great either. I think her sister makes a visit to her in Europe. Pink is the outgoing type and her sister (the main character) is a quiet type. Personally, I grew disgusted with Pink's character. But others might find it different...

Well...maybe you were SUPPOSED to be disgusted with Pink's character? If so, that would make her a good actress... maybe? LOL
