Question about ending (spoilers)

Okay, maybe this is a dumb question but I was watching this movie the other day on TV, and left the room for a minute and came back and Carolyn was yelling at Victoria about how it was her fault Jean Michael was dead, or whatever his name was, (the guy whose idea it was to have the parties in the catacombs. Did Victoria kill him by accident or what? I know after that she snapped and killed the rest of them but I wasn't sure how Jean died. Did Victoria kill him just because she was afraid or had she already snapped? Also, why hadn't they noticed he was dead? Again sorry if this is a dumb question, I just missed that part and was wondering.

they had all split up to find victoria and the guy (jean michele) was the first to find her but he was running and breathing hard in the dark (her flashlight had gone completely out) and she thought he was the bad guy and swung the pick ax at him in the dark. they didn't notice, cause like i said, they had split up and no one knew to look for him. i guess he was lying in the dark hallway a few feet away.
