What was the point of this movie?

I just did not really understand what this movie was trying to tell us. You had had three interlocking stories and one tenuous link to another. If there was a message in this film then i totally didn't understand it. I guess bad parenting leads to bad kids? I just do not know how to appreciate these stories or why should i care for them. It's a shame cause I really liked amores perros, i dont think i will be watching 21 grams after watching this.

A movie doesn't necessarily have to have a message. Does Avenger have a message? No, but everyone enjoyed it. It shows a 6 degree of separation, that the world even with 8 billion people of different ethnicity loosely be affected by someone's action thousands of mile away.

Think about this scenario, you work at a gun manufacturering plant. You make rifles. That same one you made is sold at the local gun store. I buy the rifle amd later has it stolen. That rifle is now used in a crime that was used to shoot someone you know. They give the details and it's the rifle from your line. Maybe if you called out sick, production would of slowed down and that rifle would of never been made yet. In that case the store didn't get the rifle, the shooter ended up not buying anything since it didn't have the he preferred. That happening caused him to never had a gun to kill anyone the day he losted his mind. --- Makes for a great 2 movie in one. A what if scenario. Anyome interested, hit me up.

That's extremely dumb and a great example of how this movie appeals to morons.

If I had called out sick, someone else would have done my job and the gun would have been made. If the gun hadn't been made, some other gun would have been shipped instead. If the gun wasn't shipped, then the person would have bought a gun from somewhere else. If they hadn't bought the gun from somewhere else, the criminal would have stolen a gun from a different person.

The fact that coincidences happen is not a compelling story. It's just coincidence. My guess is that nobody is hitting you up for your great movie idea.

What we've got here is a failure to communicate.

All movies have a message one way or another, even if you don't think so. People view the same movie differently, but there's always a message. That's like saying a song has no message. It's art, or at least meant to be.

Marvel's "Avengers" most certainly had a message, that teamwork can help you achieve your goals and people from diverse backgrounds can help you do that. Don't know how much of a comic book movie fan you are, but you'll notice that all of Marvel's film (Marvel Studio films) focus on positive ideas, whereas DC's films have been more political.

Talking about a gun and the connections it can have to different people, you should watch "The Mexican" if you haven't yet.

Not this is was a new phenomenon but during the 2000's, the theme of interlocking storylines, connections by chance, and characters ran rampant for a few years (ex. Crash winning best picture, slumdog millionaire a few others I'm missing). I don't see it so much anymore in this decade but it sure was Oscar bait back then.

I just got done watching it for the first time in 5 years and I agree there's no definitive answer to how these storylines related to one another. You can point out similarities and situations but it seems arbitrary in the end. You can find so many chain links between unfortunate events between people the possibilities are probably infinite. Therefore I see nothing mind-blowing about linking the stories between the different cultures together. JMO

Bobby is another great example of these types of films from that time.

The same typical leftist messages as usual, really. Feel bad for people illegally in the country and guns are bad.

I still liked the movie a lot, though, even though I recognize the cheap messages there.

reply

To me, the movie was about miscommunication especially between people who speak different languages.

I thought it was quite interesting.

I see an anti gun message.
-That gun brought so much sorrow in two families.
-Hampered human relations- Moroccan police is so brutal with its citizens, parent /children impaired relations. Kids shouldn't have been given a gun and for US kids, what in the world you have two young kids and you leave them with a maid who doesn't even have all that she needed for that job (papers). They could have gone to Canada, US is huge. Why go so far away, in a less safe country.I've never left my son more than 1-2 days provided he would stay with his grand parents. When that option was not available, I took him with us everywhere. The Japanese family also have communication and empathy problems. That young Japanese is so troubled but her father is generic except the end.
-Our wrong laws. Amelia should have had good chances to apply to whatever acts she needed. The guilty part is not Amelia, but the border officers who should not allowed the kids to exit US. Amelia was victim of her own family actions and strict anti immigration laws didn't help either.
Can we make make a better world? Or, that's not possible.
