the laptop

I don't think he ever get it back, whoops

I don't think he needed it in the end. He discovered more important values.

I don't think he ever got it back either, through they were trying to get their attention in the movie.

Why wouldn't he get it back? Do you think the Gornickes threw it out after failing to get their attention with the paintball guns? Do you think the Gornickes are thieves and would keep the laptop? They said the Big Rolling Turd spent two days in the lake after the meeting. Why couldn't they have spent those two days in the Gornicke bus, or at least why wouldn't the Gornickes stay in town to help their new best friends during that time?

The big reason Bob might not have gotten it back is that it represents a part of the life he doesn't want anymore, especially with that big, ugly Pure Vibe sticker on it. I'm sure if he wanted a new laptop, his new bosses would have bought him one.

Agree with your comment though it is strange there was no closure regarding the fate of the laptop (which was a subplot on its own.) Seems a five second clip of one of the Gornickes handing Bob the device then him tossing it would have wrapped up that story. I got the feeling the film was written or rewritten on the fly during production.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

We don't need closure. The laptop really isn't important. It was just a plot device. We don't need to know anything more about it any more than we need to know more about Cassie's friend, the girl who threw slime at Bob's boss. Or about the slobbering dog at Alpine.

The value of a laptop is not just the laptop. There's DATA in the laptop. He has worked hard to write those text files, and would probably be able to at least utilize them later on in his new job, etc.

Also, there could be personal data, and all kinds of things for music, movies to certain 'sensual entertainment' he might not want to lose.

Of course it's a work laptop, so maybe there's nothing that precious in there, but you never know. If someone uses a computer for long enough a time, there's a big chance there's some valuable, personal data in there that they would not want to lose.
