I dont get the constant complaining?

I'm a huge horror buff and recently came across the first season of this show, i came on here first to poke around a little bit and found nothing but negativity. Now after watching 4 or 5 episodes (a variety of ones i heard called good and others that were labeled as awful) i must say that all the hate is unwarranted.
This show is great, show some *beep* respect.

i think he said

hello kind sir, I respect your stance on this issue but I stand firmly by my disdain for these works of cinema.

these gentlemen, who were pioneers in their time, still foolishly cling to the notion that their ideas may easily stand the test of time and thrive today.

While the mere mention of past renowned craftsmen such as Hooper, Argento, Carpenter and Landis is initially exciting, we'd be remiss if we did not exercise caution and compare their classics to the offerings of this current generation of brilliant minds.

You, sir, are simply a genius at translation. How many languages do you know?

I don't get it either. Horror fans seem to be some of bitchiest hardest to please fans of all. Lately I've been watching a lot of the films from Horrorfest as well as Masters of Horror. I've liked the majority of both but judging by these messages boards anyways, it's at least 50/50 that think they're bad. It's like folks are expecting to see Halloween, Dawn of the Dead, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, etc. every time and anything that doesn't approach that standard sucks to them. To these people I say, adjust your expectations. Or, just stop watching the stuff if you find yourself disliking the majority of it.

To you I say: no.

If horror makers don't want their product to be called out as crap, then they have a responsibility in the first place not to make crap.

The filmmakers are the ones who need to adjust their expectations. Trying to sell crap on the basis that said crap is of a particular genre, and therefore they can sell said crap to all fans of the genre, is unacceptable in this day and age.

Horror fans like you make the problem worse. By accepting crap, you are only encouraging filmmakers to make additional crap instead of anything good.

reply

First off, whether something is crap or not is wholly subjective. I think that a pretty small percentage of the horror that gets called crap actually is crap. The problem exists only in the minds of viewers like you. If you think something is producing too much crap, yet, still continue to watch it, you're creating your own problem. Rather than complaining about how horror filmmakers are trying to sell you what you feel is crap, start choosing what you watch more wisely. Choose films from genres that you feel offer a higher percentage of quality films, if any exist. If none exist, then maybe just avoid films all together and spend your time doing things you actually enjoy.

Totally agree.... I never caught this series when it was on, but managed to get the DVD set and I thoroughly enjoyed most of the episodes.
I love ALL kinds of horror... from Horror comedy, B-Moves, Slashers.. to spine-tingling J-Horror and Psychological mind ****s.

There are obviously some crap episodes but on the whole I enjoyed both seasons of the show and think that it's a shame it didn't carry on.
We all yearn for that feeling with horror films, that feeling we had when we were young... and SCARED. It's not going to happen, once you've seen enough horror movies, you've seen them all.
Although there are some decent, original movies released every now and then.

I appreciate what this series tried to do and I actually enjoyed it.

I also liked Fear itself (although not as much) and I LOVE Tales From The Crypt and Tales From The Dark Side.

Anthology shows have always been a fav of mine, from The Twilight Zone right up to the present day with the likes of Black Mirror.

Horror, like all movies, is escapism... people are just too cynical and "clever" to just enjoy horror movies and shows.

I'm glad there are people who enjoyed this series.... a series that tried to take horror back to its roots.

The Dude: You're not wrong Walter. You're just an a**hole.
