The screwfly solution, plot hole?
OK the episode "The Screwfly Solution" (An episode i enjoyed) Seemed to have a substantial plot hole.
OK so sexual arousal and aggression are closely linked and so when a man gets sexually aroused he takes it out in the form of violence against women.
But Elliot Gould (Barney) said that "The young men I'm attracted to could kick my ass" So this I am guessing is an indication that he is gay,,,so here is the $64,000
question. Are gay men unaffected by this (Alien) virus? Barney was not attracted to women and therefore he had no desire to kill Ann,, but would gay men not attack other gay men?
It is obvious that women are unaffected by the virus so gay women would not attack other gay women and straight women would not attack men, but it seems to me that gay men would attack other gay men. Now I'm not really sure how the whole religion thing gets woven into the equation but it most certainly is. Now since most religions seem to take a dim view of homosexuality (I am straight and have no issues with homosexuals,,live and let live I say) but it strikes me a bit odd that it is only men on women violence and if since Barney (A gay man) has no desire to kill women,,,wouldn't other gay men want to try and protect women as well?
What about men who,,do to
1. Prostate cancer have had their testicles removed.
2. Testicular cancer have had their testicles removed.
3. Had an injury causing them to have their testicles removed.
Would they not try and protect women from being exterminated?
If women are exterminated then the human race gets exterminated,, so why would the Aliens create a airborne virus that simply acts like a plague that wipes out all of mankind,,or create a virus that affects women as well as men.
Don't get me wrong,,I liked the episode quite a bit, and so I'm not trying to bash it I am simply a bit disappointed that the ones responsible for this was Aliens,,,,or Angels?
If Angels Then does that mean that God has decided that making EVE was a mistake?
Good Episode,,,just leaves a lot of unanswered questions.
