This vs. Argento's Black Cat
I haven't seen either. What are the main differences? Which one is better?

shareI never saw the Argento version so I can't speak to that.
This film is excellent though. If you like Poe, it's a must-see.
But this film deviates from the Poe story source material in that it melds the historical person of Poe with the narrator character in the Black Cat short story. So basically this version consists of about 50% bio-pic of Poe's life & 50% fantasy in which the real-life Poe lives inside of his Black Cat story.
This was a solid enough episode, weaving the Black Cat story into Poe's life, imagining the inspiration of it. The Argento one with Harvey Keitel and Sally Kirkland is part of the Two Evil Eyes movie. And I know there is also one directed by Lucio Fulci that I've yet to see.
Back to this episode, I thought Jeffrey Combs did a good job. He made a more believable Poe than John Cusack did in The Raven, though I still like that movie. The woman playing Virginia Poe (Elyse Levesque) was really pretty.
