Does anyone else think The Washingtonians was stupid or am I the only...

one? It wasn't scary in the least. I couldn't believe people actually got paid to produce it. The actors who played the mother and father were okay, but the rest was just plain silly. Just my opinion...

I think because it was so bad it made it good. I'm wondering if all the bad acting was on purpose, just to make it over the top goofy. It was one of my favorites of the series.

I mean, I can at least appreciate the "so bad it's good" effect when they were shooting for serious, but aiming for that effect on purpose just kills it for me.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

I just looked up Zombie Holocaust after being interested in the quote you have as a signature. It's amazing the film was made in the 70's, yet that concept from your quote is still terrifying to think about.

Indeed !
Very bad movie!
In my opinion, that whole season was wasted, with the exception of Valerie on the stairs (maybe)
I liked the first seaon a lot, though (Jenifer, Deer Woman, Pick me up, Fair Haired Child, etc.)

well, it's more a satire... in the end, it's almost a remake of "Society".

The short story this was based on, The Washingtonians by Bentley Little, was fantastic. (This story is found in The Collection by that author.)

The idea of a man randomly finding evidence that one of the founding fathers of our country was actually a cannibal is brilliant. The concept of what to do with this information, and how secret societies were founded on Washington being a cannibal, really delivered on the fear.

Unfortunately, the director of this episode completely bastardized it and turned it into a joke. The tone of the episode was too hokey and tongue in cheek. It could have been great, but the director turned it into crap. This is really a shame, too, because the short story was so great.

I agree with you, KingDor; the over-the-top acting made the episode into a joke. And the ending...well, I'm no fan of GWB, but that was just stupid.
The saddest thing was that it was directed by Peter Medak, who gave us one of the best horror films ever, The Changeling.

KingDor, I agree with you. When I saw this episode, it starts off really good. I liked how we don't even see the member of the society killing the young woman at the beginning of the story. We don't know what we're dealing with at first. Its a brilliant piece of fiction b/c for years, we've heard so many stories about Washington's false teeth but we're never told why he needed them. This story gives us that reason, whether fact or fiction.

Towards the end is where this story falls flat with a loud dud. Why make a joke of it? Why not do what Tales from The Crypt did with the story, Mournin Mess? Here they had a secret society that were comprised of ghouls who were cannibals also. It is shame b/c the short story was good.

I think it would be hard to take the story seriously.
The decision to turn everything into a Re-animator kind of comedy was probably for the best...

reply

Yeah that is probably the worst episode of the entire series. So stupid.

It was completely stupid. And the character of the little girl got on my nerves right from the start.
