[SPOILERS] The rabbits are more important than Nicholas Cage.

Don't read this if you don't want the ending of the movie ruined.

What did the aliens accept the two kids, but not the father - Cage's character?

I mean, I presumed they let the rabbits tag along to keep the kids happy, surely it would have been even less emotionally difficult if they allowed one single extra passenger. I can't see the rabbits being of benefit. They aren't going to start a new race and a diverse ecosystem by allowing two rabbits to breed.

I guess if he went, he would be just a burden, and die eventually. Or maybe they knew his presence would disturb the new race they predict the two kids are capable of starting.

Or maybe I am just over thinking a part of a fictional movie that even the writers didn't bother thinking about, thus there is no reasoning or answer lol

Ain't a bad movie considering the rather low IMDB rating.

After they placed thw rabbits down, the kids atart running to the tree right? In that shot you see other ships flying away, just like the one they come out from. So it is safe to assume there will be other kids too, not just the 2 we know. Plus the boy said to his dad that those who heard the call could come. Which in my opinion also implied there were more than 2 kids called.

I think the rabbits were just a gift to soothe them. Since they lose their parents and everyone they knew, when they go.

A little late, but none the less. My take on it is this. What humps the most? People and rabbits. Rabbits for meat and a tree for fruit. Just my take on it.

no adults....for a fresh start.
and the tree of knowledge...

Yeah, they made it clear that only the chosen were allowed. The chosen were chosen for their purity of heart, they weren't already tainted by our world or set in their ways.

The rabbits, obviously, were to give the kids the idea to have sex. In order to populate the new world, all of the kids were going to need to start screwing pretty quick. The bunnies would do what they do--screw like bunnies, and the kids would imitate them. First as a game, then nature takes over. It wasn't the only such hint in the movie.

Yes, but I also assumed that the other kids would bring two of other animals.

Note that the ships landed some distance from each other. Thus, maybe starting different habitats and countries.

I wonder if races and LGBTQLSMFT folk were properly represented.
