I know it's just a movie.
But the Sun in real life won't devour the Earth for millions of years.......
I'm wondering if the aliens / angels whatever did something to the Sun to set it off like that.

It didn't devour the earth. It sent a super solar flare.

We had a close call during the summer of 2012, it just missed us.

shareThere was also a meteor a few years ago that was headed towards us that would have ended all life on earth.
Luckily it got caught in Jupiters gravity and was pulled into Jupiter.
The explosion when it hit Jupiter was 5 times the size of earth.
So, if not for *beep* luck, the earth wouldn't be here at all.
But notice the government didn't tell us about the meteor until after it was no longer a threat.
We would have all died without a minutes warning.
Jupiter catches a lot of stuff.
It's like our very own safety belt on our solar system.
